For instance we also allow Volvos with Ford V8s to run in SM2 (Engine swap from another mfg)

That's great Dan, I think that is the way SM should be. The whole limiting the engine to the same manufacturer was part of a pipe dream of having manufacturer sponsorship. That will never happen and it prevents a lot of common car engine combinations. Now for on topic, the CVT on the kart looks like it would be a lot of fun. Smile

It was so much fun with the Brigg's that I will eventually get one working for my Yamahas. I can assure you that it will not cost $775 Britich pounds! Their planetary gear system is very creative...

We just set it up with the shortest belt and run a secondary #35 chain... much simpler, tho it does shift the engine forward a bit more than I would like. We were able to get pretty good crossweights and corner weights though with the Briggs. The Yamaha is lighter so it should work out. The biggest problem is the lack of tuning parts for the commercially available units. Snowmobiles CVTs have a huge aftermarket of tuning parts...

Being an independant club we do what we can to make the membership happy. Before SM2 existed the wierd swaps went into SM, Now with SM2 available, they go into it ands SM is run under regular SCCA rules.
