Gatorz Karting Cup Prepares for 2007 Kickoff
Article by: Shift Communications Group

Building on the momentum of a successful 2006 season, the Gatorz Eyewear Golden State Karting Cup is pleased to unveil its 2007 schedule and rules changes.

Kicking the season off at Moran Raceway on January 20, the series moves to the ultra-fast Streets of Willow Springs – a favorite stop for most drivers – on February 10. March 24 sees the series at the CalSpeed Karting Center, before trekking out to the high desert for the fourth round of the season at the Grange Motor Circuit on April 28.

Three weeks later, the Gatorz Karting Cup is back at it at the Willow Springs Kart track on May 19, and June 16 moves north up the I-5 freeway to the Buttonwillow Kart Track. July 14 will see the series at the newly redesigned and repaved Lake Perris Kart Track. The series will go on hiatus to allow competitors to attend the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge Nationals, before it wraps up its season September 22 at Moran – running backwards around the Full Wood Kingdom. The eight-race series will allow competitors one points drop for its series championships.

The big change for the 2007 season will see the series align itself with the R-Max Challenge’s worldwide tire rules, and run with the Rotax-designed MOJO tires.

“The Gatorz Karting Cup is the trend-setting series for the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge program,” said Gatorz Karting Cup owner Andy Seesemann. “The switch to the MOJO tires will keep us at forefront of development in worldwide Rotax competition. It will also allow our drivers who represent us at the Nationals, and at the Worlds, to be more familiar with the tire at those competitions.”

In addition to the return of all five of the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge classes, the Gatorz Karting Cup will also introduce the Club Rotax class. Recognizing a need for more recreational Rotax owners to get the experience that the Gatorz Karting Cup provides – that is, of maximum track time – Club Rotax will allow drivers to run either the Bridgestone YHC or the series spec MOJO, at 390 lbs. Club Rotax will not be eligible for Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge punches.

Additionally, Gatorz will once again offer its class for other TAG engines – and as such will be the only true TAG class in Southern California. In accordance with the TAG USA rulebook, all tires approved by TAG USA will be legal, in addition to the series-spec MOJO. Class weights will be run at 15lbs over the TAG Sr. weights in the TAG USA rulebook. See the soon to be relaunched Gatorz Karting Cup website for more details.

For the 2007 season, both series spec fuel and MOJO tires must be purchased through the series’ entry form. While new MOJO tires are not required for each race, only MOJO tires purchased through the series will be legal in 2007.

Season prizes will be announced at a later date. Last season saw over $15,000 worth of prizes handed out to Gatorz Karting Cup competitors at the season ending banquet.
