Taylor Castle of Check-n-out Racing won big over the July 29 weekend in the Champ Car Rotax Kart Challenge race regional series of the Gatorz Golden State Karting Cup. The race series made its Northern swing to the 7/10 of a mile track in Santa Maria California. This was round six of the seven race series and although the number of competitors for the Junior Max category was not as high as was to be expected, the competition was everything we expect from this very competitive group of Junior Max drivers.

In the morning qualifying session it was Taylor Castle/Birel who showed that he was the man to beat as he inched out Race Liberante/KRT for pole by six hundredths of a second with Cameron Jocelyn/Birel qualifying third about three tenths behind pole sitter Castle.

When the pre-main race started it was Castle/Birel making a bold move to get the jump on second place Liberante/KRT. That was the last the field would see of Castle/Birel as he drove away to nearly an eight second advantage over Kenny Maler/Margay and almost sixteen seconds over third place finisher Ryon Beachner/Tony Kart.

When the green flag flew to begin the main event it was Maler/Margay who got the jump. His lead however would be short lived as Castle/Birel was glued to his bumper and made a textbook pass on him. This was how the race stayed for most of the first half, and then with nine laps to go Maler/Margay pulled out and made a move on the leader Castle/Birel and took over P1. Castle/Birel would not be denied his rightful place for first as he made a move to get back by Maler/Margay four laps later. This time Castle/Birel drove to a lead of a about a second and never looked back as he brought home his first win in the Gatorz Golden State Karting Cup series. Maler/Margay and Jocelyn/Birel would join Castle on the podium. This was Taylor’s day as he got his first pole and win in the highly competitive Gatorz Golden State Karting Cup series.

Taylor is quoted as saying “I would like to thank my crew for all of the hard work and time that they invested in me to get to this point, they are the best.”

With the win in Santa Maria Taylor Castle took over the points lead heading into the final round of the Gatorz Golden State Karting Cup series. The final race will be held at CalSpeed Karting Ventures track in Fontana California, Home of California Speedway.
