Howden Media Group president Rob Howden - the publisher of karting media outlets eKartingnews.com and Super Kart Illustrated, as well as eFormulaCarNews.com and FormulaCar Magazine - is pleased to release news that he will be continuing the strategic alliance with the Formula BMW USA program that was constructed last year. Once again, HMG will aid in the identification of the best karters in North America for inclusion in the emerging junior formula open wheel series. Just as was the case last year, Howden and his crew will lend their expertise in awarding a pair of all-expense paid trips to the Formula BMW USA 2007 Licensing Courses in Valencia, Spain.
"I'm extremely happy to continue our close relationship with Formula BMW in 2006," offered Howden. "The program provides an excellent step for a certain type of young driver and the internal benefits of the series offers segments of development that are not available elsewhere. Formula BMW's Licensing Courses are a great way to bring these drivers up to speed quickly and I consider it an honor to have the opportunity to provide a scholarship for these courses for two deserving competitors."

A total of three two-day courses will take place in Valencia during the month of July and August. Those completing the course will then become eligible for an invitation to the Scholarship Shootout in September where the ’07 FBMW Junior Team will be selected. The cost of the program is $3,000 USD and in addition to the two on-track days, this price includes three nights of accommodation and meals along with ground transportation roundtrip from the hotel to the track. Drivers will be responsible for booking airfare to the hotel of record. The course is limited to participants born after January 1, 1988 and before December 31, 1991. They must also have never competed in a car race prior to 2006, with the exception of a maximum of four races combined in a Skip Barber Racing School Regional Championship, Bertil Roos, Bridgestone Academy or Russell Racing series. The deadline for applications and payment is June 20. A link to the application PDF can be found below.
From those who have submitted their applications to the licensing course by the deadline, Howden will utilize the expertise and knowledge of his staff at Super Kart Illustrated, FormulaCar Magazine, eKartingnews.com and eFormulaCarNews.com to work with FBMW officials in selecting two deserving drivers who will have their course fees refunded. This trip will earn these karters eligibility to apply for an international FIA Class C competition license and, with a good showing, a chance at an invitation to participate in the 2007 Formula BMW USA scholarship shoot-out.
