EKN Weekend Preview

With the weather turning warmer in the Northern part of North America, the 2006 racing season is beginning to take shape. This weekend will see six events run during the weekend from coast to coast.

Starting on the East Coast is the second round of the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series as they return to the Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the first time since it was repaved. The first round back in December during the Daytona KartWeek was a record breaking weekend for the sprint series, boasting almost 700 entries for the four day event. Friday will see a full day of practice before the racing action happens Saturday and Sunday.

Some Stars of Karting drivers are getting an early jump on the rest of the competition as the Southwest Regional Cup will open up its Spring 2006 season this weekend at the Oklahoma Motorsports Complex. The series is entering its sophomore season, running a Spring championship and a Fall championship, with a total of six weekends. The series has five shifter classes along with the complete TAG USA class structure and three other Junior divisions. Racing will take place on both Saturday and Sunday.

Also in the Central part of the U.S. will be the opening round of the KART Southern Regional Sprint Series at the North Texas Kartways in Denton, Texas. The two day event will see a Qualifying, Prefinal and Final format with Rotax Max Challenge and TAG USA classes included in the class structure as well as Yamaha Can classes for Senior and Junior drivers.

On the West Coast, karters have the choice in the three major areas, the Pacific Northwest, Nor-Cal, and So-Cal. The ProKart Challenge will host its third round at the Willow Springs Kart Track in Rosamond, California. The series is seeing record numbers in its second year, especially in the Stock Moto program. The event is a one day program that is run smoothly by new Superkarts! USA owner Tom Kutscher and his staff. The IKF Region 11 Sprint Series hits the second race of the 2006 season at the Dixon Kart Track in the Nor-Cal area. Road racers in the Northwest will travel to the Portland International Raceway as the IKF Region 6 Gold Cup Road Race Series begin their ’06 schedule.
