| EKN Top 50 Karting Drivers of All Time |

With the New Year having come and gone, we can now begin our celebration of the 50th anniversary of the sport of karting. The year was 1956 when Art Ingles and his new racing machine hits the streets and the evolution continues today. To help commemorate this memorable milestone, eKartingnews.com has laid the groundwork for a program that will present an unofficial list of the best North American drivers of all time. In the 50 years of karting’s development, there have been many outstanding drivers and the weekly unveiling of a new driver will act as a reminder to the community to enjoy this special year.
When EKN posed the question to its readership and requested nominations in a ranked list of ten, the site’s supporters came calling with a long list of official posts to the forum and countless more private e-mails to the Howden Media Group head office. The readers of EKN took up the challenge of developing a list of the all-time best North American karters of all time during a two-week period in late December. EKN readers were asked to provide a list of their top 10 drivers, in order, by either email or posted on the nomination thread of the Forums. The EKN staff then took the nomination lists collected and assigned points for each driver’s position on a nomination ballot. From there, the EKN and Super Kart Illustrated crew poured over the nominations and the resumes and history of their unique performances to complete the ranking for publication. Input from other key industry sources helped cement the final listing, which will be presented on a weekly basis throughout the year.
We begin with the #50 ranked North American driver of all-time and release a new driver each week throughout the 2006 year. We’ll highlight each driver’s career with stats, information, photos and the odd quote here and there.
The motivation behind this whole program is to promote the 50th anniversary of our sport and those who have helped shape its history and its future. We hope that you enjoy the segment throughout the 2006 season.
