| Major Enhancements Announced for CalSpeed Kart Track |
| |
Karting Ventures, Inc. today unveiled plans for major enhancements to CalSpeed Kart Track, Southern California's newest karting facility located at California Speedway. Specifically, the track will gain two new configurations offering improved passing opportunities and longer straights. In addition, several sections of existing track will be completely removed and replaced to smooth out bumps and rough spots. An expanded schedule will also be offered, with CalSpeed open for practice every Wednesday and Saturday throughout 2006.
"Our goal when these enhancements are finished is to set a new standard for karting facilities," stated Karting Ventures President Rob Niles. "As 2005 was CalSpeed's first year of operation, it was a period of learning and modifying the facility to meet the needs of our host clubs, series, and racers. We intend to implement a vast number of improvements, both small and large, to elevate CalSpeed to a premier karting facility."
The existing .625 mile layout will be lengthened up to 1200 feet through a series of additional corners and straights in the infield section. Also, a new approach to the infamous hairpin turn number 8 will create a fast, downhill run and open up the tight 180 degree left-hander. The new configurations will be in addition to the existing layout, creating three exciting courses that will run on alternating months.
CalSpeed's schedule of major karting events in 2006 is impressive. The IKF Region 7 SuperSeries will kick off its season on February 4th and 5th at the newly improved facility. ProKart Challenge visits the facility the next weekend in its first of two visits for '06. The Los Angeles Kart Club will host round 5 of the IKF Region 7 series with a return to CalSpeed on June 17th and 18th. Karting's most prestigious event, the IKF 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals will be held August 3rd through the 6th at the facility, with open practice being offered daily for two weeks prior to the event. Finally, the Rotax Gatorz Cup series will hold its 2006 season finale at CalSpeed on September 16.
"CalSpeed will be in the spotlight all year long," added Niles. "To deliver on our goal, a long list of improvements, from the installation of grandstands to an improved pit layout, will be awaiting racers when we re-open the facility on January 4."
A new web site for the track is currently in development, with a scheduled launch date of January 1. The site, http://www.calspeedkarting.com will offer the latest information and schedule of track activities. Track maps, prices, rules, and directions will be posted on the site, as well as links to event information and race series sites. |
