Torrential rains scuttle afternoon practice sessions on Canadian temp circuit
The inaugural Stars of Karting Grand Prix of Woodbine got underway today on the grounds of Woodbine Race Track, Canada’s most storied horse racing facility. Located just northeast of the Toronto Int’l Airport, the venue offered up a huge parking lot for the event and a tight layout was designed to challenge the sport’s finest national competitors. The opening day of competition was all about weather, however, as rain showers hit on the track throughout the day, first in the morning and then in the afternoon when a downpour flooded the track, leading to the cancellation of the final two timed practice sessions. Light rain came during the first timed Cadet session before Race Director Kevin Williams red flagged the session during the 80 Junior run when heavy lightning hit the area. This proved to be the last time karts would see the track as the deluge left the track flooded and undriveable.
