Wiegand sweeps ICC mains as Prime Motorsports’ Larson gives Gillard first victory

Only a single short rain shower dampened the festivities at the 103rd Street Sports Complex today as the third round of the Stars of Karting Eastern Championship went in the books with some incredible racing. The headline classes featured heated competition as KLS Racing’s Kyle Wiegand completed the ICC sweep with a big victory while Chris Larson powered away in the ICA final to give his Prime Motorsports team their first win, the initial national triumph for the Gillard chassis that they import.

Heavy rain KO’s ICA final, Wiegand wins big in ICC

Weather was the major player at the 103rd Street Sports Complex today as the storyline of the third round of the Stars of Karting Eastern Championship was molded by the heat, the humidity and, eventually, a torrential downpour that has forced the postponement of the ICA final to Sunday morning. Nonetheless, the racing was exciting and Jacksonville’s trademark 1000’ straightaway played its regular part in the outcome of more than one main event.

FRIDAY, JULY 1

Drivers battle heat and humidity during practice day at 103rd

Everything is in place at Jacksonville for the third Eastern round of the Stars of Karting program and, as we predicted, the weather is going to play a major factor in what happens this weekend. After an afternoon of heavy rains yesterday, the humidity was off the charts today and the paddock area remains soaked. Those unlucky enough to be on the backside of the paddock are being forced to cross some serious mud tracks to get through to the grid areas. It’s a mess, but everyone is trudging along.

Teams set to face Florida heat this weekend for round three

The Eastern Division of the Snap-on Stars of Karting Presented by the IRL gets back into action this weekend at the 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida. After several weeks off following the New Castle event in mid-May, the series' drivers will be looking to advance their positions in the championship battle as the season hits the halfway mark.
