The Badger Kart Club racers suffered through another hot and sticky race weekend en route to their championship dreams. Despite a couple of scary crashes earlier in the day, officials were able to keep the show on schedule and get in all the features.
One of the most exciting features was Sr. Sportsman Lite where Joe Brenner and Ryan Lemmer have been battling strong most of the season. Brenner once again jumped into the lead at the start. But as the laps wore on, Lemmer was able to run down Brenner and make a pass for the lead stick with two laps to go. But Brenner came back on the white flag lap to regain the lead coming out of Turn 1. The two were nose-to-tail until the final corner where Lemmer swung out to make one last stab for the win. The two came down to the checkers side by side, but Lemmer had the momentum and ended up taking the win at the stripe by a mere 0.07 seconds.
In Jr. Can, Jason Foley ran a smart race to take another feature win. At the start, Foley ended up third behind Justin Sund and Alex Eichorst. Foley trailed the two for a number of laps, but as Eichorst made a pass on Sund on lap three, Foley followed in for second. Then the next lap, Foley managed to get around Eichorst and he began pulling away for the win.
Joe Schaffer Sr. made a run through the field to win the Briggs 4-cycle Sr. feature. Although he started in the rear, Schaffer managed to pick off several spots in both the first and second lap, until he was in the lead for good on lap three.
Jesse Wirtz went flag-to-flag for another well-deserved win in HPV Jr. Wirtz jumped out to a tremendous lead at the start, but Jacob Feder slowly ran him down and made a bid for the win on the white flag lap. However, Wirtz was just too strong and he went on to take the win over Feder by 0.09 seconds.
Badger Kart Club will be open this coming Sunday for another Bridgestone Tire Championship points race. Spectators can come and watch for free and enjoy a multitude of food from Badger's famous Karters Kafe.
