Whitt earns freshman ICA win as Speed doubles to pad his ICC point lead
The second day of competition at the MINI Cooper Grand Prix of Reno is in the books and the action saw rookie Cole Whitt score his first win in the ICA class. It was good day for the freshmen as Ryan Phinny scored his first podium in ICC with a very impressive drive in the headline shifter class. It was a solid run for everyone as the paddock battled warm temperatures and very strong winds throughout the day. It was a clean outing with no red flags and, thankfully, no ambulance runs.

We say ‘nearly’ because CompCor Tony Kart driver Ryan Yop has not arrived yet at the facility as school commitments prevented him from making the day. Needless to say, he’ll behind in a big way tomorrow with just one short morning warm-up session to learn the track before qualifying. There’s no doubt that Yop will be looking to teammate Jason Bowles for help in getting up to speed.

National teams set to tackle Reno temp circuit
The Snap-on Stars of Karting squad has set up base camp at the Reno Hilton for this weekend’s Western Division race and the event look primed to add a great deal of excitement to the national calendar. All the major players from the west, along with a few from the east, will be on hand to sample a new temporary circuit at the popular resort complex. What the folks from Stars are hoping to develop with their program is not just a series of good races, but a series of good events, and a successful run in Reno could set the tone for future programs modeled after this one.
