There was not a Bridgestone slick in sight this morning at Moran Raceway as the second day of Stars of Karting Western Division competition got underway at a very damp facility. Rain hit hard through the evening and when the day dawned, the team went straight into putting wet weather set-ups on their cars. Things dried up midway through the Prefinal and the main events were business as usual for the West Coast’s top pilots. The headline classes saw impressive wins for Jason Bowles (Tony Kart) and Giacomo Patrono (Biesse) in ICC and ICA, respectively, and the support classes offered up a bunch of excitement for good measure.

After a wet ending to Friday’s practice sessions, blue skies greeted the drivers of the Stars of Karting championship when they arrived at Moran Raceway for the second round of the Western Division schedule. A light wind blew across the facility throughout the day and despite the fact that dark clouds threatened early in the afternoon, the day remained dry and the action was fantastic. What transpired was a split in excitement with a few incredible races being tempered by a pair of walk-away wins. The ICC final was undoubtedly one of the greatest single races in the history of American shifterkart racing. Alex Speed, Darren Elliott and Jason Bowles put on an amazing show while the performances of Alan Rudolph and John Zartarian coming from the tail of the field was stuff of legend.

Rain hits Moran Raceway -- again
Heading into the Moran round of the Snap-on Stars of Karting Presented by the IRL Western Division, series organizers were hoping that their third time at the track would be the charm. In their previous two visits to the Beaumont, CA facility, rain had marred the proceedings. Stars official would not be that lucky however, as rain has been forecasted for assorted times throughout the weekend and, in fact, began falling today as the schedule wore down. The rain began to hit the track late in the day during the final two timed practice sessions and continued to the completion of the day.
