Route 66 Sprint Series Launches New Web Site with Rules Updates and WKA Regional Transfer News

The Russell Karting Specialties/L & T Manufacturing Route 66 Sprint Series presented by Bridgestone/Margay and Grand Products has launched a new web site to kick off the 2013 racing season.
The new web site contains new areas for driver bios and sponsor/supporter information. A new downloads section has downloadable forms available for event information flyers, registration, schedules, class structures and driver biography forms. The new web site has retained many of the great features such as Mylaps results, point standings, track and motel information, photo galleries and series news. The new series web site is located at the same URL, http://www.Route66KartRacing.com

The Route 66 Sprint Series has scheduled five events at five of the Mid-West’s favorite kart tracks along with special money races at each event in 2013. The first special event, the Jim Russell Memorial Leopard Race, scheduled for May 4th at New Castle Motorsports Park (NCMP), has a cash purse that is already at over $2000. The QPS Employment Group Yamaha Junior Shootout will be held at Michiana Raceway Park (MRP) on June 15th. The Bestway Drywall Yamaha Sportsman Smackdown is scheduled for July 27th at Badger Kart Club (BKC). Concept Haulers Motor Speedway (CHMS) will again host the DRT Racing Komet Throwdown for the Komet Senior division under the lights on August 24. The final special event will be hosted by Mid-State Kart Club (MSKC) on September 21st for the Ribtect Yamaha Senior Shootout.

2013 Route 66 Sprint Series Schedule and Special Events
May 4 & 5 - NCMP sponsored by Bestway Drywall & Jim Russell Memorial Leopard Race
June 15 & 16 - MRP sponsored by Prokup Media & QPS Yamaha Junior Shootout
July 27 & 28 - BKC sponsored by Merlin Racing Karts & Bestway Drywall Yamaha Spts. Smackdown

September 21 & 22** - MSKC sponsored by B & B Electric & Ribtect Yamaha Senior Shootout
(** Bonus points race)

The Route 66 Sprint Series is now a WKA Divisional Series. With a void in the Mid-West area for the drivers that compete in the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, the Route 66 Sprint Series has worked out an agreement with WKA for divisional points. This will have no impact on participants who are not interested in racing for WKA points and WKA membership will only be required for those who are racing for WKA points.

Four out of five races will count for year-end points with a minimum of four race required to qualify for year-end awards. Racers who participate in all five events will receive 22 bonus points.

Class changes for this year include a new Komet division for ages 13 and up at 345 lbs utilizing the #2 pipe. The TAG class is now called Leopard 125 Pro and both days are running for a single championship. The Yamaha Masters class will be racing on Saturday with the minimum age reduced to 30 years old and class weight of 360 lbs. Yamaha Senior Heavy class weight will also be 360 lbs and will be racing on Sunday. Although the series is utilizing WKA tech rules, all of the Yamaha Junior and Senior classes are still utilizing the RLV SSX Can #7548. Additional tech rules are posted on the series web site class structure page in the Miscellaneous Rules and Regulations section.

As a cost savings measure, the series has implemented a TIRE RULE. Once you qualify on Saturday, you race on the same set of tires on Saturday and Sunday with the exception of the Leopard 125 I and II classes which will be allowed a new set of tires each day. In rain conditions, you must use the Bridgestone YLP tire. The series has also implemented blow-down tech rules for all Yamaha and Leopard engines. A minimum of .380” and maximum of .410” as measured with the LAD tool will be required for the Yamaha engine. Parilla Leopard classes will also have minimum and maximum blow-down rules which are posted on the series web site class structure page.

The series will continue to use a two-day/weekend format at all events with three rounds of practice held on Saturday. Seven classes of racing will be held on Saturday along with a special money race at the end of the day. On Sunday, eight classes will contest their qualifying, pre-finals and final events. There will also be at least one round of practice held on Sunday. All five series events will have practice time available on the Friday before the event. All events will again hold the popular free cookout at the conclusion of racing on Saturday.

Margay Racing/Bridgestone Tire will again be sponsoring a tire give-away at each event. A set of Bridgestone YLC tires will be given away each race weekend in a drawing from all entries at the Sunday morning driver’s meeting.

The event flyer and entry form for the first event scheduled at NCMP is now available on-line at http://www.Route66KartRacing.com. Pre-entries for the first event at NCMP must be post marked by April 15th to receive a $20 pre-entry discount. Entry fees paid at the track will be $85 this year. As a convenience to the racers, the series is now accepting Visa and Master Card. Since this is a convenience for the racer, it would not be fair to take the credit card fees out of the series award funds, so there will be a $10.00 credit card processing fee.
