| USPKS to Race On Bridgestone in 2013 |
| Article by: uspks.com |
USPKS is happy to announce all seven classes in the new series will race on Bridgestone karting tires in 2013. “A single tire supplier is in the best interest of both the series and the karters and Bridgestone is the logical choice,” stated USPKS CEO Mark Coats.
All classes will be on the popular YLC (CIK-Hard) tire with the exception of the IAME-Pro class which will use the CIK-Medium YLB compound. “The USPKS IAME-Pro class is intended for the top karters in the US,” continued Coats. “Running that class on a softer tire will showcase those driver’s talents as longer events will place an emphasis on tire management,” added Coats.
Keith Freber, owner of longtime Bridgestone kart tire distributor Margay Racing was enthused with the confirmation of Bridgestone as the series tire. “Mark and his team have proven with the successful Route 66 Series that they know how to please the karter and stage quality events. We are glad to see Mark branch out and offer a national level series based on the formula he has established with Route 66. The majority of karters are familiar with the Bridgestone YLC and YLB compounds and both are proven, consistent performers that will enable a wide range of karters to easily compete in the new series,” commented Freber.
Additionally, USPKS is pleased to announce changes to the IAME Semi-Pro and IAME Masters classes. Karters have asked the series for some modifications and clarifications to these two classes, and in the spirit of being proactive and responsive to karters USPKS has made a couple of modifications.
First the IAME Semi-Pro class will be open to drivers 14 & up with a weight of 340 lbs. “This category is open to all drivers 14 & up. It’s a great class for kids moving up from Jr. Yamaha and “newbie” karters to gain experience,” said Coats.
Secondly, the IAME Masters class will be required to weigh 395# and be open to karters age 30 and up. The class will now run the standard unrestricted IAME Leopard Header (not the 30mm restricted header as earlier mandated).
“We want the USPKS to be as proactive and responsive to karters as possible,” continued Coats. “While we can’t make everyone happy, when it’s logical and can benefit the sport of karting as a whole we will do our best to utilize karter input to improve the series.”
The inaugural USPKS season kicks off at the Mooresville Motorplex in North Carolina on April 26. Following Mooresville are races at New Castle Motorsports Park (IN), Badger Kartway (WI), and the four race series winds up Pitt Race Karting (PA) in September.
