Track News: Mooresville Motorplex Karting Challenge Series Schedule and Class Structure Announced

Mooresville Motorplex (MMX) has announced the schedule and class structure for its official, in-house racing series, the MMX Karting Challenge. The purpose of the series is to provide the karting enthusiast with the most affordable and exciting race program in the region.

"I'm really excited to finally solidify the schedule and classes for the MMX Karting Challenge,” said Justin Marks, owner of Mooresville Motorplex. “This series is very important to us because it's fundamental to our local racers and will provide the foundation not only for the young, ambitious karters in the area, but also for those that are looking for a fun, competitive thrill. The most important aspect of the MMX Karting Challenge is to make racing affordable, fair, competitive and exciting for all the participants. We believe in having a few classes with high participation levels, with as equal equipment as possible, so the very best racers achieve success."

The MMX Karting Challenge will compete on one weekend a month from March through November, including some doubleheader events, beginning in 2013.

The schedule for the 2013 MMX Karting Challenge will be as follows:
March 17
April 20-21*
May 12
June 16
July 20-21*
August 25
September 21-22*
October 13
November 9
*Indicates a doubleheader weekend

Along with compiling the event schedule for the MMX Karting Challenge, MMX has also determined the class structure utilized for the racing series. The MMX Karting Challenge will feature the full Rotax Max Challenge Series in addition to other popular karting classes. The class structure will be as follows:

1.) Official Rotax Max Challenge Series (Will support the full Rotax class structure; Mojo Tires)
2.) TaG Sr. (Leopard and Rotax engines only; Hoosier MMX 'A' compound tire)
3.) TaG Masters (Leopard and Rotax engines only; Hoosier MMX 'A' compound tire)
4.) Open Shifter (Hoosier MMX 'A' tire)
5.) Yamaha Classes Jr.-Masters (Hoosier MMX 'B' compound tire)

By adopting the Rotax Max Challenge Series structure in addition to a few other classes, MMX will provide a consistent and affordable rules and class structure. The Rotax structure also allows participants to get experience and track time for the 2013 Rotax Summer Shootout and U.S. Rotax Max Challenge Grand Nationals, which will be held at MMX July 31-Aug. 3.

MMX has worked closely with Hoosier Racing Tire Corporation to develop a racing tire specifically designed for the MMX surface and track layout. Together, they made the decision to use the Hoosier MMX 'A' and 'B' compound tires. In testing, the tires performed consistently with the other major tire brands in both grip and longevity. These tires will serve as the spec tire for the MMX Karting Challenge in every class, excluding the Rotax Max Challenge classes which will utilize the official Rotax Mojo tire. The Hoosier MMX tires will retail for 185 dollars per set.

Lastly, The MMX Karting Challenge rules will be announced in detail in the coming weeks, but they are expected to mirror those of the major kart racing sanctioning bodies in the U.S.

MMX looks forward to hosting an action-packed season of racing for their competitors and fans in the 2013 season.
