EKN Trackside Live: SKUSA SuperNationals XVI

Drivers, teams, and karting fans wait nearly 364 days a year for this week to come, as there is nothing like it. With the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip in the background, nearly 500 of the best karting drivers from around the world will converge on the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino for the 16th running of the Superkarts! USA SuperNationals presented by MG Tires.

Since November 5, eKartingNews.com has brought you a preview of all nine classes set to do battle outside the Rio this year. The fields are so competitive this year, it was very challenging to select the key drivers that we may see in the fight throughout the week and at the end on SuperSunday. Make sure you visit the EKN EVENT PAGE to review all the previews before you travel to Vegas or tune in for the EKN Trackside Live coverage.

They will all be racing for a piece of the nearly $100,000 prize package. A hefty portion of that will go toward the fan favorite KZ2 category. Current and former world champions, top American drivers, and young stars highlight this year’s field, racing for $20,000 in cash, $10k to the driver who takes the checkered flags first. More importantly will be the roughly $24,000 Superkarts! USA hands out to its 2013 title winners with the Circle of Champions program. A number of other cash awards and prizes will be dolled out in Sunday night’s podium ceremony inside the Rio, thanks to a number of event and Pro Tour supporters.

While many have been in Vegas for days now, the go time begins Wednesday with the first full day of practice. Each driver in all nine categories will be awarded four seven-minute practice sessions on day one as well as day two on Thursday. Friday is when drivers and teams will need to show their cards as qualifying and the first round of heat races take place. Saturday will host the final two rounds of heats and the LCQ races for TaG Senior, S4, TaG Junior and TaG Cadet, giving drivers one final chance at SuperSunday. Opening ceremonies will begin roughly around 9:20am PST with the first of the nine main events set for 10:15am PST.

eKartingNews.com, the official online media partner of Superkarts! USA, will bring you exclusive live coverage of the action from Friday until the final checkered flag on SuperSunday. Those unable to attend this year’s SuperNationals are encouraged to watch http://www.ekartingnews.com/live for live audio, led by 16-time SuperNationals announcer - EKN’s own Rob Howden - and live timing provided by Race-Monitor.com. All of this brought to you with the support of Ribtect, Rolison Performance Group, Acceleration Kart Racing, DRT Racing, Rotax Challenge of the Americas, Courtney Concepts, Honda Performance Development, GMZ Race Products, KartSport North America and of course the SKUSA Pro Tour.

Make sure to follow the OFFICIAL EVENT DISCUSSION and the EKN Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates throughout the event.
