It was a beautiful day to close the 2012 Ocala Gran Prix fall series with a perfect blue sky, cooler temperatures and a racing paddock filled with the Southeast top contenders. Once again the junior class had the largest attendance with top competitors but K1 RaceGear sponsored driver Olivier Bellanger was determined to finish the series on high notes. He delivered another podium finish with a well earned 2nd place, which gave him a third place finish in the OGP regional series championship.
“What a great day, expressed the rookie junior driver, I qualified 2nd and finished 2nd in both the pre-final and final races. I had great battles with Brendan Johnson and his teammates from CMP (Carolina Motorsport Park), unfortunately there was not much I could do to take the fight to my buddy and teammate Quentin De Boever. I was pushing so hard, doing hot laps every lap but did not have enough top-end speed to contend for the race win. I am still very happy with my performance, I have demonstrated that in less than 3 months in the junior ranks I have been consistently fighting in the top 5 and got 3 podiums out of 5 races and 2 results just outside the podium. My Tony Kart handled great all weekend and my freshly rebuilt OGP Rotax engine delivered awesome horsepower. The best thing about racing here at Ocala Gran Prix is that you get the chance to race with some of the best drivers in the country.”
There is no doubt that the folks at OGP know how to organize and deliver a race series that entice very close competition in every class, all in a friendly family atmosphere. No expenses are ever spared and they even provide a complimentary banquet at the series opening and closing races, with always amazing trophies presented to the top 3 drivers in all classes.
Olivier will now be preparing for the opening race of the 2013 World Karting Association Manufacturer’s Cup Series taking place at the famed Daytona Speedway December 26th – 30th, where he will race for the first time in the Komet junior class.
“I am so excited to race at WKA Daytona this year, said the youngster. One of my dad’s clients is sponsoring me to race there and I am so grateful for the help. 2012 has been a good year for me, I have grown and matured a lot as a driver. I have been practicing 2 or 3 days per week at OGP since I moved up to Junior and drove more than 5000 laps the past 3 months. Practicing with the likes of Gary Carlton, Alex Speed, Nick Neri, Jonathan Kotyk, Ashley Rogero, Oliver Askew and many other super talented drivers is just invaluable to me. It has helped me greatly and I am very thankful to everyone at OGP. I also would like to thank my sponsor K1 RaceGear for their continued support, my family and all our friends that are helping me race. I look forward to 2013 and I am committed to race hard in every series we will be able to attend.”
