Descending on the Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) facility for the fourth round of the Fall/Winter local program, Alex and Mikey Hornborg would be ready to contest in the second night race that the series had to offer. Showing speed through the first three rounds, the Hornborg duo would look to fight for race wins and podium results under the lights as the 2012 racing season begins to near its end.

After quickly getting up to speed during Friday's afternoon/evening test session, Alex Hornborg would focus on Saturday as a strong field of Rotax Senior drivers would turn up for the event. Qualifying second in the late afternoon session, Hornborg quickly shot out to the lead of the prefinal as he managed to get the jump on the rest of the field. Battling with the lead quartet of drivers throughout the race, Alex would cross the line in the fourth position and start Saturday evening's main event from outside row two.

When the Rotax Senior field went racing at the drop of the green flag for their final, Alex slotted himself into the third position on the close of lap one. Right on the rear bumper of the second place driver, Alex pushed him to the lead at the fastest part of the circuit, only to find himself in a vulnerable situation. Trying to follow the leader through to take over the second position, Alex would quickly find himself airborne at 70mph. Unable to slow his kart down, the eldest of the two brothers went hard into the barriers, immediately bringing out a red flag.

"I am ok," explained Alex. "My hand hurts a little and the kart is destroyed but I am lucky to only have a small injury. That was one of the hardest hits that I have had in a kart. It is very unfortunate as I felt that I had a very fast package and may have been able to challenge for the victory."

Younger brother Mikey would battle a talent filled Rotax Junior field, as twenty-five entries would compete during the evening event. With a few drivers switching chassis and tire combinations to test for the Rotax Grand Finals later this year, Mikey would stick with the Tony Kart as he would look to continue his run of top ten results.

Qualifying in the 12th position in the late Saturday afternoon session, Mikey was excited to race under the lights. Looking to hold station or advance forward in the prefinal, Mikey would have a fierce battle with two Rotax Grand Finals Team USA drivers as he looked to find a way past them. With some blocking and evasive moves taking place, Mikey would settle for the 15th position and inside row eight starting spot for the main event.

"The prefinal was a big battle," explained Mikey Hornborg before the main event. "I was almost taken off the track on several occasions. I will look to move forward in the final."

On the gas at the drop of the green flag for the main event, Mikey would encounter problems in the first complex of corners. Taken off the track and spiraling down the running order, the youngest of the two siblings would complete the first lap near the tail of the field. With a bent steering column and a never give up attitude, Mikey adjusted his driving style to accommodate his ill-handling ride and drove forward to finish 18th.

With next weekend providing a break in the Ocala Gran Prix local program, Alex and Mikey Hornborg will return back to the track November 9-10for the final round of the series. Looking to cap off the season with strong results, the duo will then shift their focus to the 2013 Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour that is set to kick off in early January.
