| Industry News: Accomplished Race Engineer Brandon Fry Steps in as Online Instructor for SAFEisFAST |

The Road Racing Drivers Club’s highly acclaimed http://www.SAFEisFAST.com website today launches yet another new video tutorial, focusing on the European-based FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy – a “Top Gun School” for elite up-and-coming drivers – and welcomes a new Online Instructor, Brandon Fry, who will be available to answer questions on a broad range of engineering topics.
Fry has worked his way up through the sport in a variety of racing series, including Grand-Am, Champ Car, INDYCAR and the American Le Mans Series, after starting out as a mechanic in the mid 1990s. He has been with Muscle Milk Pickett Racing in the ALMS since 2010 and now oversees daily engineering operations, on-track vehicle configuration, simulation programs as well as communication with the team’s partners in regards to car development and parts. In addition to serving as chief race engineer, Fry took on the responsibilities as team manager this year, so is perfectly positioned to address a variety of topics either from budding engineers who are looking toward a future in the sport or drivers who are seeking to gain a better perspective on how to optimize their race cars.
Fry takes over the reins from reigning Pirelli World Challenge champion and current ESPN2 ALMS analyst Johnny O’Connell. Other previous Online Instructors have included Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, Indianapolis 500 winners Dario Franchitti and Gil de Ferran, and two-time Le Mans winner Alex Wurz, as well as Fitness Instructor Jim Leo and Mental Preparation expert Dr. Jacques Dallaire.
“It is with great pleasure that I accepted this opportunity to be one of the online instructors for the SAFEisFAST.com website,” said Fry. “I’m honored to be part of this lineup of instructors and to also be the first to offer advice from an engineering perspective.
“Engineering is an important part of motorsports. While many factors contribute to a driver’s success, his relationship and communication aptitudes with his engineer are a valuable component of a driver’s skill set.
“I think SAFEisFAST is a great, unequaled initiative set forth by the RRDC that offers such a wealth of information. I look forward to answering questions and adding to the ‘data’ that can already be found on their website.”

SAFEisFAST.com is a free online resource offering video tutorials on safety, fitness, mental skills, race craft, career development, sponsorship, marketing and more to assist the careers of drivers in all forms of racing. The website was created by the Road Racing Drivers Club (RRDC), led by President Bobby Rahal, in conjunction with the FIA Institute for Motor Sport Safety and Sustainability. Since its launch, there have been over 188,000 views of the online tutorials from visitors representing no fewer than 130 countries. |
