After opening the fall edition of the Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) local series two weeks ago, the Hornborg duo of Alex and Mikey were back on track for race two and the first of two night events in the five race program. Competing in Rotax Senior and Junior respectively, both drivers would look to continue with the speed and experienced gained from the first event to improve on results and make their marks in their new racing divisions.

With practice taking place Friday afternoon and into the evening under the OGP lights, both drivers would show speed as the session came to a close at 10pm. With Saturday's action not getting underway until 3pm, Alex and Mikey enjoyed the morning off before suiting up for the first of six on track sessions on the evening.

Progressing through their three practice sessions and onwards to the first official timed run of the evening, Alex would show his speed to turn the fifth quickest time in Rotax Senior qualifying while Mikey would claim the 15th position in Rotax Junior.

With the dinner break now complete and the lights on around the circuit, drivers would begin their first wheel-to-wheel action of the weekend, as sparks would fly in the nighttime conditions. Holding station for the majority of the Rotax Senior prefinal, Alex would fall back one position by the time the checkered flag would fly to come home sixth and secure an outside row three starting spot for the main event. Younger brother Mikey would avoid the melee at the first corner of the Rotax Junior prefinal and turn some of his quickest laps of the evening. Battling hard, Mikey secured a 14th place effort and would look to improve even more in the main event.

"It is really cool racing under the lights," expressed Mikey. "The track is well lit but there is added difficulty with the shadows from the trees. I learned a lot out there."

Older brother Alex went on to add, "The karts seem so much faster at night and a lot of sparks fly when drivers hit the curbs or drop wheels off the track. I think the entire event was run pretty well and racing under the lights on the same weekend that the Formula 1 drivers are doing it in Singapore is pretty neat."

Though the main event did not go as planned for Alex, the eldest of the Hornborgs would continue to show his speed in only his second event as a Senior. Crossing the line in a disappointing twelfth position, Alex will now shift his focus to the next local event, two weekends from now.

Mikey would have his best result to date as a Junior as he managed to gain five more positions in the main event to come home with a top-ten finish. Working hard to get past a group of drivers mid-race, Mikey would score a ninth place effort.

With one weekend off from official competition, both Alex and Mikey will return back to their seats for the next Ocala Gran Prix local race on October 6, 2012.
