| Series News: Red Line Oil Karting Championship Drivers Looking for Championship Winning Performances |
| |
With summer over, there are less than 3 months left to determine the top drivers in the Red Line Oil Karting Championships; all the Championship contenders will be fighting for wins. September 16 will begin the fall portion of the season with the drivers returning to the difficult Reverse Sprint configuration at the Simraceway kart track at Sonoma Raceway.
The GoPro feature class at this event will be the ultra competitive Senior Rotax class.
Sanzaru Games NorCal Rotax Challenge
The Sanzaru Games series currently sits as the fifth largest Rotax Max Challenge series in country. Just 8 new members will make us number 1. (membership is just $45) RLOKC will give a $25 race entry credit to any RLOKC driver who brings in a new Rotax member!
The NorCal Rotax Challenge has four races left to run over the next eight weeks, three of them at Sonoma Raceway and the annual visit to the Dixon kart track to run as part of one of the Kinsmen Kart Club events on September 30. All of the Rotax classes have been very competitive this year. August races made things even tighter in the points situation with Senior Rotax continuing its streak of no repeat winners this year and the Micro Max, Junior Rotax and Rotax Masters having five different race winners in the first 6 races. With the Senior Rotax win in August, Sean McDonald has forged ahead of 2010 class champion Carlos Calderon for the lead in class points. Michael Avansino's win last month in Junior Rotax has elevated him into second place in points just fifteen points behind leader Will Preston with Alex Keyes another fifteen points back of Avansino. The Micro Max class has double race winner Ethan Tavares ahead of Valdemar Eriksen in the points. In Rotax Masters, Scott Ripslinger has one race win as does Andrea Delfanti, but Ripslinger has been getting better results in the other races over the two time Rotax Masters Lights champ, to hold a 100 point lead.
Molecule Karting Championship
The RLOKC Molecule series classes has seen their numbers growing this year, especially in the 125 Stock Honda classes and the Junior Tag/IAME Tag combined race group. There are three more races left in the series, all at Sonoma Raceway. The tightest battle is in the Parilla engine/spec gear IAME TaG class where Josh Buttafoco holds a thirty-point lead over Darren Geahry. Maxx Marian has four wins in the Junior TaG class, giving him a comfortable lead over Alex Keyes. Bob Lesnett holds a solid points lead over Tom Nelson in the 80 Honda Masters class. In 125 Pro Stock Honda, Daniel Langon has some breathing room over Jason Toft and, with five race wins, Jim Inglebright holds a solid lead in the Stock Honda Masters class over David Arnstein.
In an effort to reduce costs RLOKC will introduce a new Hoosier rear tire at the next race. In testing the new tire has improved durability and better matches the wear rate of the front tire.
Practice will be available from 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday. Practice is $50 for the day and all karts are welcome to run practice as long as the drivers are veteran drivers and driving karts that meet current safety standards. All registration will be at the Old Jim Russell Admin building (to the right of the Sonoma Raceway Main Gate, behind the large wall). Registration will open Saturday at 8:00am and at 7:00am for Sunday. Sunday race day starts with practice at 8:10 and racing beginning about 11:00. Race Entry fee is $100, $10 for transponder rental, $10 for each additional pit pass, $5 for kids under 12. Rotax National membership is required for all Rotax classes; cost is $45 and can be done at Registration.
