 | | Michael Poterno |
Team CRG Midwest drivers Nicky DeFronzo, Jimmy Clark, and Michael Poterno looked to build on momentum after great showing at the MKP national in South Bend.
Up first was Nicky DeFronzo in Komet heavy. He qualified his CRG KT1 in 4th position. A rib injury would side line Nicky so his teammate Jimmy Clark took over driver duties. Starting from the rear of the field, Jimmy advanced to the fourth position in the prefinal. In the final he was able to advance to third place for his first podium of the weekend.
Up next was Jimmy Clark in his Woltjer powered CRG KT1 in Supercan Light. Jimmy qualified 2th just .07 off the poll. In the prefinal he led the most laps including the white flag. An ill-fated pass attempt on the final lap would send Jimmy off the track in turn eight but he was able to recover with a fifth place finish. The final saw Jimmy advance to third on lap 4 and set his sights on the leaders who had checked out by over two seconds. With his CRG handling perfect and running laps 4 tenths quicker than the field he ran down the leaders. With two to go he made his move, passing Olsen and Griffin and held on to take the win. It was his third straight Man Cup Supercan victory. Jimmy qualified second in Supercan heavy. The start of the prefinal saw Jimmy jump to the lead but an engine failure on lap 2 would end his race. Starting from the rear of the field due to an engine change, Jimmy set his sights on the podium. A log jam in turn three at the start would put Jimmy five seconds back from the leaders after lap 1. His CRG was flying and he passed his way from 21St to 5th making up three seconds on the leaders. It was his third podium of the weekend
Michael Paterno qualified his CRG Cadet 6th in Komet Sportsman. In the prefinal he worked up to fifth but ended the race in eighth. A rough start in the final saw Michael go off the track dropping him to 16th. He fought back to finish 13th
Michael qualified 23rd in Yamaha sportsman. He dropped to 28th on the start of the prefinal then moved forward to finish 23rd. Contact at the start of the final would drop him back to 28th. The damage would see him retire on lap 7.
Team CRG Midwest will be racing the final three Man Cup races and all the Route 66 Series races.
Nicky, Jimmy, and Michael would like to thank CRG Midwest, Curt Cornell and all their fathers for all their hard work and support. |
