| Series News: Red Line Oil Karting Championship Set to Start of Second Half of the Championship Season |
| |
Continuing the RLOKC commitment to driver development, the winners of the Junior Rotax, Senior Rotax and Pro Stock Honda classes will get "Total Access" passes to the upcoming IndyCar race at Sonoma Raceway. The karters will have a chance to meet IndyCar drivers Rubins Barrichello and Tony Kanaan!
With the Rotax Nationals now in the books, the second half of the Red line Oil Karting Championships gets underway with Race #6 on August 19. But unlike most seasons in the past where there are clear favorites in many class championships, almost all of the classes in the RLOKC have no clear favorite since there have been so many different winners in the first five races of the season. Five different classes actually do not have a repeat winner so far this year; that is five different winners in five races! The five classes are Senior Rotax, Rotax Masters, Micro Max, IAME TaG and Pro Stock Honda while Junior Rotax has had four winners in five races.
In Senior Rotax, Sean McDonald and Reno's David Harwin share the mid-season lead in net points. In Junior Rotax, Alex Keyes is the only repeat winner this season, but last month's winner Will Preston is close on Alex's tail for top net points. Rotax Masters has produced the largest fields this year and with five different winners so far, it is very competitive at the top of the class. Scott Ripslinger has put himself on top of the points battle with one win and strong finishes in his other races. The IAME TaG class has a near tie at the top with Darren Geahry holding a net 5 point lead over Josh Buttafoco. Pro Stock Honda has a tie at the top between Jason Toft and Daniel Langon. In spite of his 4 wins in the Stock Honda Masters class, Jim Inglebright holds only an 85 point lead over David Arnstein.
The GoPro featured class will be the Stock Honda Masters class.
The track configuration for race six will be the tight Sprint layout where handling and driver skill will be the key to success.
Practice and Pre-Registration will be available from 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday. Practice is $50 for the day and all karts are welcome to run practice as long as the drivers are veterans and driving karts that meet current safety standards. All registration will be at the Old Jim Russell Admin building (to the right of the Sonoma Raceway Main Gate, behind the large wall). Registration will open at 8:00am Saturday and 7:00am Sunday. Sunday raceday starts practice at 8:10 with racing beginning about 11:00. Race Entry fee is $100, $10 for transponder rental, $10 for each additional pit pass, $5 for kids under 12. Rotax membership is required for all National Rotax classes, cost is $45 and can be done at Registration. A one race waiver of Rotax membership is given to all first time racers to the Rotax classes.
