Northeast Shifter Kart Series ‘Top Gun Shootout’ Set for August 10-11
Article by: neshifterkartseries.com

The stage is set at F1 Outdoors for the Northeast Shifter Kart Series ‘Top Gun Shootout’ sponsored by KISS Barriers, August 10-11. A big field is expected with KISS Barriers posting an impressive prize purse of $3,000 including $600 first place; $400 second; $200 for third in each class. The stand-alone event will run two classes, KZ/ICC and Stock Moto. Shifter Karts with Built Moto 125cc engines are also welcome to participate and will run with the KZ class. Just like the NESKS regional series, the Top Gun Shootout will be run open tire, open fuel. In addition to the prize money, CRG America is giving away a free set of tires to the pole winners in each class.

While the final format has yet to be unveiled, the schedule is: Friday, August 10th full day practice and Saturday August 11th is race day. While this race is a stand-alone event and will not count toward the NESKS season’s points championship, the organizers’ goal is to increase visibility and series participation with a big prize purse helping attract drivers who have yet to get on the grid at a NESKS event.

In its second year of competition, the NESKS Series is enjoying significant growth with fields over 30 drivers not uncommon throughout the six-round series. One of highlights of the Northeast Shifter Kart Series, and a major factor in its growth so far, is the series’ ‘inclusive’ nature and the different types of shifters racing it provides. In the US, the debate between the merits of Stock Moto- engine karts vs. the euro KZ/ICC powered racers has been intense in the last few years. While the Moto and KZ guys don’t always see eye-to-eye in the various karting internet message boards, this series has proven the two classes can coexist peacefully on the track.

The most recent NESKS race at F1 Outdoors featured over 20 KZ powered karts on the grid, arguably the largest field of KZ racers in America outside of the SKUSA SuperNationals. It’s especially impressive since KZ has almost disappeared in many other parts of the country. Stock Moto hasn’t seen as many participants at the series’ races yet, but the number steadily grows with time, particularly with the increasing number of racers from the Woodbridge Kart Club, a Stock Moto stronghold on the east coast.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the NESKS Top Gun Shootout sponsored by KISS Barriers,” comments KISS Barriers Founder Richard ‘RJ’ Valentine. “It’s a stand-alone event that’ll give racers not familiar with the Northeast Shifter Kart Series a chance to experience this terrific ‘up-and-coming’ series, and give drivers a chance to compete on one of kart racings most spectacular tracks – F1 Outdoors.”

The series’ mission is to re-invigorate shifter kart racing in the region. NESKS has been growing steadily, attracting racers to some of the region’s best tracks, including Oakland Valley Race Park (Cuddebackville, NY); Raceway Park (Englishtown, NJ); New Jersey Motorsports Park (Millville, NJ); Monticello Motor Club (Monticello, NY); as well as F1 Outdoors in East Bridgewater, MA.
