Greenfield, Indiana's Zach Holden raced his Comet Kart Sales No. 2 Arrow chassis to three top-five results in five starts at this past weekend's WKA Manufacturers Cup MKP Nationals at Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend, Indiana.

Holden, who has six wins on the 2012 Man Cup national circuit, was in contention for race wins throughout the weekend but luck didn't go his way on several occasions.

The 11-year-old talent overcame adversity, though, and brought home fifth-place finishes in Cadet Final 1 and Yamaha Sportsman 1. His best finish of the weekend was a fourth-place effort in Komet Sportsman.

Holden nearly scored the win in Sunday afternoon's Cadet Final 2. He was third with one lap to go and made some savvy moves to make a bid for the top position before getting run off the track and losing a number of positions. He was credited with 19th in final rundown.

While the results weren't what Holden was working for, he was optimistic upon leaving Michiana Sunday evening.

"We had high hopes coming into the weekend and things just didn't work in our favor," Holden commented. "But the good news is we have two more races in the series, and even though we didn't win this weekend, the three top-fives are still good points races. Norway is next and we'll start by trying to win some races at the Great Lakes race there in a few weeks."

Speaking of the Great Lakes Sprint Series, Holden has been on a tear on the WKA divisional circuit. He wheeled his Arrow to four feature wins in five starts at the June 15-17 Great Lakes race at MRP and he has six wins in the series on the 2012 season - equal to the amount he has in the Man Cup.

With two Great Lakes races left, Holden is in contention for multiple class championships.

"The last Great Lakes race at MRP was one of our best weekends ever," Zach said, reflecting on the mid-June event. "To win four races was a great accomplishment, especially since the competition is almost as strong as the WKA nationals. We're having a great season, thanks to my dad, Comet Kart Sales, Kyle Ludwick and KartSport North America. We're hoping we can end the year strong and win some Great Lakes and WKA national championships."

Zach and the Holden team have a busy couple of months ahead. Next up is a July 20-22 Great Lakes show at Concept Haulers Motor Speedway near Norway. Holden will be back at Norway the first weekend of August for round five of the WKA Manufacturers Cup.

After Norway, the team will turn its attention to its home track, New Castle Motorsports Park just down the road from Holden's Greenfield, Ind., base. The Great Lakes is at New Castle Aug. 31-Sept. 2 to close out their 2012 season. The Man Cup's season finale is Sept. 14-16, which marks the series' 2012 Grand Nationals.

Zach Holden is an 11-year-old go-kart racer from Greenfield, Indiana. He's a budding young star in the Cadet, Komet and Yamaha Sportsman classes in the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, his primary focus. He's also a regular in the Great Lakes Sprint Series and KRA Series at New Castle. Holden races Comet Racing Engines-powered Arrow chassis for his family-owned team.
