Team CRG Midwest drivers Nicky DeFronzo, Jimmy Clark, and Michael Poterno rolled into round three of the Route 66 series at MRP.
Up first was Jimmy Clark in his Woltjer powered CRG KT1 in Supercan Heavy. Jimmy qualified 4th and advanced to 3rd in the prefinal. In the final he advanced to 2nd and set fast time in the final and prefinal. Up next was the Bestway Drywall Shootout with a $1000 to win! Jimmy qualified 5th. The start saw Jimmy drop to 6th but he moved up to 4th by lap 3. He then set his sights on the top three which had broke away and put him a second back. With the fastest kart on the track he caught the lead pack and passed his way to second and set fast time when the checkers flew. After two second place finishes Jimmy was determined to get a win. On Sunday, Jimmy dominated Supercan Light. He took the pole by over .25 seconds. He then led every lap of the prefinal and final and won the final by over two seconds.
Nicky DeFronzo qualified hisWoltjer powered CRG Black Star 5th in Tag 1. A rough start in the prefinal put Nick off track and he finished 16th. The start of the final saw Nicky off the track again giving him his first dnf of the season. In Tag 2 Nicky responded by qualifying 2nd. He then won the prefinal, setting fast time and leading every lap. The final saw Nicky lead every lap and get his first win in Tag.
Michael Paterno qualified his CRG Cadet 13th in Sportsman 1. An off in the prefinal gave him a dnf. He rallied back in the final from last to 19th. Seeing his teammates step up on Sunday, Michael went out and qualified 4th in Sportsman 2. Another bad start put Michael off track resulting in a 14th place finish. The final saw Mike advance five spots to finish 9th.
Team CRG Midwest will be racing the final three Man Cup races and all the Route 66 Series races.
Nicky, Jimmy, and Michael would like to thank CRG Midwest and Kurt Cornell for all their hard work and support. |
