| |
eKartingNews.com would like to wish everyone a happy 4th of July celebration. We hope that your time with family and friends at the pool, on the lake or just relaxing in the AC is joyful. If you’re not one of those people, you are probably getting ready for one of the many events schedule on this upcoming weekend. Here is a preview of just some of the events on the calendar for July 6-8.
WKA Manufacturers Cup Series - MKP Nationals - Michiana Raceway Park
The fourth round of the six-event championship will be held July 6-8 at the Michiana Raceway Park. The MKP Nationals is sure to be among the biggest events of the year as the South Bend, Indiana facility always brings in the racers. Eleven classes are set to compete on Saturday with nine on the roster for Sunday. EKN will be trackside beginning Friday afternoon, bringing its Trackside coverage once again with full forum, Facebook, Twitter updates in addition to daily race report and photos. More to come with a full preview on Friday.
CIK-FIA U18 World Karting Championship - Braga, Portugal
Some of the best young talent in the world will be competing July 6-8 in Portugal as the CIK-FIA U18 World Karting Championship kicks off. The three event international series begins at the Kartodromo Internacional de Braga with over 80 drivers competing for the championship. The Academy Karting Trophy series for drivers 13-15 will run in support, featuring American driver Tazio Torregiani and Canadian Kami Moreira Laliberte. Barber Kart Race - Barber Motorsports Park - Leeds, Alabama
If you could imagine building the best racing facility, the Barber Motorsports Park is the image of most thoughts. The 2.38-mile course built on top of the Alabama hills east of downtown Birmingham hosts IndyCar and Grand-Am events yearly. On July 6-8, karts will return for the first time since 2007. The wide range of karting classes will compete over the three days, including the 150mph 250cc Superkarts. Hopefully, this event will lead to yearly visits by karters from around the country to the Barber Motorsports Park.
Championship Enduro Series - Grattan Raceway - Belding, Michigan
Another road racing event on the weekend will be the second stop of the Championship Enduro Series. The 2.0-mile course northeast of Grand Rapids, Michigan just hosted a WKA National Road Racing Series event with high praise on the track’s repaved surface. A number of TaG and shifterkarts are expected on the weekend.
Western Canadian Championships - Martensville Speedway - Saskatoon, SK
North of the border, the Western Canadian Championships will host round two of the series in Saskatoon, SK on the 0.9-kilometer Martensville Speedway. The event will host all seven categories in the Rotax Max Challenge as well as Senior and Junior categories for the Briggs & Stratton engine package. Live timing can be viewed at the following site (http://maxchallenge.ca/wcc/live-timing/).
Utah State Championships - Miller Motorsports Park - Tooele, Utah
THE place to race in the state of Utah for karting is the Miller Motorsports Park. The site of the 2012 SKUSA Pro Tour SummerNationals will host a double-header on the weekend with rounds three and four of the series that offers Rotax Max Challenge, SKUSA, and local option classes. The track for round three will be the ‘OuterLoop’ in the clockwise direction, while round four will be the same circuit but contested counter-clockwise.
Racing the Rockies - The Track at Centennial - Englewood, CO
On the other side of the Rocky Mountains in the metro-Denver area sits The Track at Centennial, as they will host round four of the series on July 7-8. The series brings out some of the best in Colorado, competing in the Rotax Max Challenge categories in addition to Spec 125, Spec 125 Masters, Spec 125 Novice, and Kid Karts. The site of the 2007 United States Rotax Grand Nationals is a challenging 0.8-mile, set to host the Pan American Challenge Championship event on September 20-23, 2012.
IKF Region 11 Championship Series - Monterey Bay Karters - Marina, California
The IKF Region 11 Championship Series will travel to the Monterey Bay Karters facility in Marina, California for round five of the seven-event program. After two events in Sonoma and Redding, the series traveled to Medford, Oregon for a double-header weekend over Memorial Day. After taking June off, the series hits the beach along the Pacific Ocean and the Marina Municipal Airport parking lot. |
