Race Report: Florida Karting Championship Series - 103rd Street Sports Complex

Race number six took the Florida Karting Championship Series to Jacksonville’s 103rd Street Sports Complex for the final race of the 2012 season. With another great turnout there were many points battles on the line. Under sunny skies and temperatures in low 90's, Friday practice turned out very strong as drivers had many rounds of practice as they prepared for the weekend.

Kid Karts
The stars of tomorrow, the Kid Karters had another great turn out this weekend with eight karts in the field; Jeremy Fletcher, Chase Heffner, Lucas Rodriguez, Akela Pacitto, Ryan Rackley, Dalton Smith, Gabriella Ramirez, Mathias Freebury, Alessandro De Tullio, Connor Toole, and Valentino Mini, all raced this past weekend. These young drivers continue work on their skills and getting prepared for the next step in karting and moving up into the sportsman classes. It was an outstanding day of racing on Saturday for all of the kid kart drivers.

Box Stock Sr
In the twelve lap final, seven karts would take the green flag, with the 2011 points champion Joey Miller starting on the pole, Joey would have no problem with the field as he would go wire to wire to score his fifth straight win of the season. Second going to Patrick O'Neal who made a late pass for that position and getting his best finish of the season, third going to Glenn Fitchner. Pre final winner was Joey Miller, second going to Doug Moff and third it was Glenn Fitchter. In qualifying it was Joey Miller with fast time, Miller turned a 40.971.

Rotax Mini Max
In the final, seventeen karts were in the field with Ruben Grillet on the pole. Grillet looked very strong as he was able hold off some very good drivers, one of those drivers was Olivier Bellanger who keep the heat on Grillet for the lead, until the final lap when Bellanger would make the pass and go on for the win, but would end up with a three second penalty for a starting violation leaving Bellanger with a third place finish. Being scored the winner was Mathias Ramirez picking up his third win of the season, finishing second was Michael Benyahia getting his best finish of the season. In the pre final, Ruben Grillet took the win, second was Michael Benyahia and third going to Olivier Bellanger. Mathias Ramirez set fast time in qualifying with time of 36.792.

Rotax Micro Max
Fourteen karts took the green flag with Nicholas Brueckner starting on the pole, Brueckner would get off to a very good start holding the lead until lap seven when we would get our second leader of the race in the name of points leader Devin Boutot, who would also be under some heavy pressure from Harry Coulton who started ninth. Coulton would be able to grab the lead in lap ten and would go on to lead the final six laps of the race scoring his first win of the season. Second place going to Brueckner getting his best finish of the season and third going to Devin Boutot who would lock up the points title. Nicholas Brueckner took the win in the pre final, with Reece Gold picking up second and third going Devin Gennaro In qualifying Nicholas Brueckner, had a quick lap of 40.130.

Rotax Senior
Eleven karts would take the green flag for the twelve lap final, with Jonathan Kotyk starting on the pole, and points leader Nick Neri starting outside of row one, Kotyk would be able to jump out the lead in lap one and that would be the only lap that he would be able to lead. Neri would make the pass for the lead going into lap two and by lap ten Neri would have a 3.6 second lead over Kotyk, Neri would go to score his fifth win of the season and picking up the Rotax Senior points championship, second it was Kotyk, finishing second for the third straight race, crossing the line in third it was Annie Hayden getting her first podium finish of the season. In the pre final, the win went to Jonathan Kotyk, with Nick Neri taking second and third it was Brandon Salyer. Jonathan Kotyk set fast time in qualifying with a time of 34.318

KPP Junior
In the final, it would be Ashley Rogero taking the pole in a small field with only six karts taking the green, Rogero would be able to check out early, by the halfway point she would open up a three and a half second lead and would be able to go on and score her fourth straight win, all the racing was for second place between Augusta, GA driver Skylar Robinson making his second start of the season and Justin Kreiner who would go nose to tail and side by side until lap fifteen when Robinson would take over second place for the final time and would get his best finish only losing that position by not crossing the scales and would be disqualified giving Kreiner second and third it was Eddie Rodriguez. Ashley Rogero took the win in the pre final, with Austin Jordan picking up second and third going Justin Kreiner. In qualifying had Ashley Rogero a quick lap of 35.385.

TAG Cadet
In the twelve lap final, Justin Gordon would start on the pole with points leader Seve DePinto starting outside of row one. DePinto wasted no time grabbing the lead in lap one with Gordon on his heels the entire race as the two drivers would battle into the final lap and the final turn when Gordon would clear DePinto for his first win of the season, DePinto would finish second only to receive a three second penalty for jumping the start, giving second place to Nicholas Brueckner and third it was DePinto, who would lock up the points championship. The pre final win went to Justin Gordon grabbing second it was Seve De Pinto and third it was Mayo Livingston. Vincenzo Sarracino set a time of 38.034 in qualifying.

TAG Junior
In the final, twenty-three karts would take the green flag, with Ashley Rogero starting on the pole, making her second start of the season in the Tag Junior class, she would prove to be too much for the field building a 1.8 second lead over the field by the halfway point and would go on to a wire to wire victory, finishing second it was Aren Smith making his first start of the season and third going to Derek Sobel who finished the season with five top five finishes. Pre final win went to Ashley Rogero with second going to Derek Sobel and taking third it was Dustin Stross. In qualifying Ashley Rogero turned quick a time of 33.700.

TAG Masters
In the twelve lap final, Scott Roberts started on the pole and he would show that he was the class of the field going wire to wire to pick up his fourth straight win along with the 2012 points championship. Second going to Jason Heffner and third it was Brad Sanders. Pre final win went to Scott Roberts taking second it was Brad Sanders and third it was Jason Heffner. In qualifying Jason Heffner set fast time at 35.104.

Box Stock JR 1
Nash Duyn started on the pole and he would be able to stay in the top for the entire race and getting his third win of the season and locking up the point’s championship, second going to Jacob Howard securing his best finish of the year, third going to AJ McKinney. In pre final it was Nash Duyn taking the win, second going to AJ McKinney and third it was Hunter Padilla. Picking up fast time in qualifying it was Nash Duyn with a time of 39.483.

Box Stock JR
In the twelve lap final, Tyler Smith started on the pole and making his only start of the season, Tyler get some good racing out of twin brother Aren the two would go nose to tail and side by lap after lap all the way to the finish line with Tyler getting the win only to take a three second penalty for a starting lane violation, that would give the win to Aren, dropping Tyler to second and third going to Katie Kirkpatrick getting her first podium of the year. Benjamin Withers would finish fifth and would the championship. Pre final winner was Tyler Smith with second going to Evan Cowen and third it was Katie Kirkpatrick. In qualifying Tyler Smith set fast time with a lap of 40.015

Rotax Masters
In the sixteen lap final, Scott Roberts would start on the pole seeking his fifth win of the season, once the green would Roberts, Jason Heffner and John Dalton would all take off from the field and would run in that order the entire race with some very good nose to tail racing, with Roberts able to lead every lap and good go wire to wire for his fifth win and the points championship, second going to Jason Heffner, who would finish second for the fourth straight time this season and third going to John Dalton. In the pre final Scott Roberts took the win, second going to John Dalton and third going to Dayle Flowers. In qualifying, fast time went to Scott Roberts with a time of 35.612

Rotax Junior
The final brought sixteen karts to the green flag with Dominic Tesoro starting on the pole, Tesoro look very strong all day long coming off the pre final win, he would jump to lead and hold the top position until lap fourteen, when Alex Hornborg would take the lead and would be able hold off the field for the win, but he would have to take a three second penalty for a starting lane violation, that would give the win to Tesoro. Tesoro would grab his first win of the season, second it was Sebastian Sierra and Collin Warren would hold on for third giving Warren his best finish of the season. In the pre final, the winner was Dominic Tosoro, finishing second AJ Meyers and third going to Brian Lockwood. In qualifying Dominic Tesoro set fast time with a lap of 34.555.

TAG
The final brought eighteen karts to the green flag for the eighteen lap final with Nick Neri starting on the pole and Jacksonville local driver Corey Towles starting outside row one. This race would have three different leaders with six lead changes. Neri would drop back to fourth in lap one giving the lead to Towles who would take the first two laps, then it was Sean Meier for a few laps, then Jacob Duvall would get lead in lap six and would battle back and forth with Meier until lap fifteen when Duvall would get lead for the final time giving him his first win in three attempts, second it was Meier and third going to Neri. Neri would pick up the points title. In the pre final Nick Neri scored the win with Corey Towles finishing second and third it was Brandon Salyer. Fast qualifier it was Nick Neri with a time of 33.840.

Yamaha Junior
The twelve lap final had just five karts in the field, with Ashley Rogero on the pole looking for her fifth straight win of the season, once the green would Rogero would take off with Derek Sobel riding her heels for the entire sixteen laps, Rogero would go wire to wire for the win, she would have to take a three second penalty for a starting lane violation, giving the win to Sobel giving him his second win of the season, Rogero would get second and third it would be Austin Jordan. Ashley Rogero picked up the win in the pre final, followed by Derek Sobel and third going to Austin Jordan. In qualifying Ashley Rogero set fast time with a lap of 37.142.

Cadet Sportsman
Sixteen karts started in the final with Vincenzo Sarracino starting on the pole, Sarracino came out strong in the final with some tough drivers behind him, he would be able to wire to wire for the win with the entire race going nose to tail, Mathis Ramirez make a late run coming from his fourteenth starting position on the last lap he would try to get around Sarracino but would come up short giving the win to Sarracino for the first time this year, Ramirez would be DQ'd in tech giving second place to Aidan Keel scoring his best finish the season and third it would be Devin Bowerman. Pre Final victory went to Vincenzo Sarracino second it was Devin Bowerman and third going to Aidan Keel. In qualifying it was Jason Yarbrough with a time of 40.096.

ICC Shifter
Five karts were in the field with Ryan Smith starting on the pole, Smith look like to kart to beat, that would all end in lap five when something would break on Smiths kart and would force him out of the race, that would give the lead to Brad Sanders, Sanders would prove to be to strong for the field and go on to pick up his third win of the season, second it was Chris Grektorp and third going to Farshad Bagheri. The pre final win went to Ryan Smith, second went to Brad Sanders with Chris Grektorp finishing third. Ryan Smith set fast time in qualifying 32.644.

Masters Shifter
In final Chad Waldron would pick up the win getting his fourth win of the season. Pre final winner was Chad Waldron. Chad Waldron set fast time in qualifying with a time of 33.504.

Stock Moto
In the final, Nick Neri would start on the pole, Neri showed some muscle early on and would be able to break away from Don Whittington who would run second most of the race. Neri would cross the finish line for the win by over four seconds over Whittington, who finished second and third it was Chris Bany. Pre Final winner was Nick Neri second going to Don Whittington and third it was Chris Bany. Nick Neri set fast time in qualifying with a time of 33.301.

TAG Heavy
In the final, nine karts took the green flag with Michael Sachs starting on the pole, Sachs making his second start of the season would run very strong as he would hold the lead until lap fifteen, that’s when Sachs would slide off the track in turn one, giving the lead to John Dalton who ran the entire race in nose to tail behind Sachs. Dalton would pick up his fourth win of the season along with the championship, second going to Emily Lander and third it was Sachs who recovered very well after that spin. In the pre final Michael Sachs scored the win, with second place going to John Dalton and third it was Jim Glitch. In qualifying, fast time went to Matt Blair with a time of 35.408.

Yamaha Sportsman
This race would have a twist to it as the drivers came out to run their sixteen lap final with Jacksonville driver Jason Yarbrough starting on the pole, once the field got around to attempt to complete lap one the skies opened up and heavy rain would fall forcing the field to switch to rain tires, once the field returned it would be a single file restart, this was very exciting race in which, it had three different leaders and seven lead changes between Yarbrough, Mathias Ramirez and Justin Gordon. Once the dust was settled Ramirez would go on to capture his third win of the season after a great nose to tail battle, second going to Devin Boutot and third it was Jason Yarbrough. In the pre final Jason Yarbrough got the win, second it was Devin Boutot and third going to Mathis Ramirez. In qualifying Jason Yarbrough set fast with a lap of 40.328.
