Carter Williams of Clovis, Calif., drove to two IKF Grand National championships and two feature victories in the Superkarts! USA California ProKart Challenge in a three-day period last Thursday through Saturday (June 21-23) on two racetracks in California’s San Joaquin Valley.

Williams, 13, began his remarkable run on Thursday in the IKF Grand Nationals on a temporary course at the Fresno Fairgrounds, taking home two Duffy trophies for winning the titles in Junior Super Sportsman and IAME Cup Junior/Parilla Leopard. He also won the Screaming Eagle pole award for IAME/Parilla.

“The Duffy meant everything to Carter,” father Ty Williams said. “It’s one of the most prestigious awards out there and he really, really wanted to win one and he got two. We’ve been planning for a year for the Grand National. He drove really well and earned the red plate, which identifies him as an expert and he can carry on his kart. There aren’t many of those around.”

Carter finished second on Friday in KPV2. He was also the Screaming Eagle pole winner.

The Phil Giebler Racing driver was at Buttonwillow Raceway Park’s .69-mile kart track Saturday for the fourth round of SKUSA’s California ProKart Challenge. Carter drove brilliantly to win the 20-lap TaG Junior feature and added a victory in S5 shifter karts from pole.

Carter was second fastest in qualifying and second in the two heats, starting on the outside of the front row.

“Carter was on the outside lane for the start and he slotted in eighth,” Ty Williams said.

It took Williams four laps to move up to seventh and he began gaining a position a lap, climbing to third by the 10. On the 11th, Williams passed Christian Brooks and Grayson Browne to take the lead and led the rest of the way.

“Carter drafted them on the outside entering the straight and they went three-wide on the front straight,” Ty Williams said. “He passed them both. It was incredible. He drove a smooth pace from there and kept his margin to second steady.”

Williams, who graduated from Fairmont Middle School in Sanger, Calif., on June 7 as valedictorian of his eighth grade class with a 4.4 grade point average, had four wins, a second place, three poles and two front row starting positions in five races.

“It was a great weekend for Carter,” Giebler said. “What he did was remarkable. Carter showed he’s a driver who can compete at the highest level nationally.”

Williams won the SKUSA ProKart Challenge South TaG Junior championship last year. He also was California state champion in Junior 1 for three straight years, 2007-09, and Kid Kart champion in 2005.

Williams’ sponsors are Phil Giebler Racing, Sanner Racing Engines, Bell Racing, PKS Kart Supplies, Graphix Plus, OMNILife Science, Packaging Solution and Williams Fence Company.

Owned by the 2007 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, Phil Giebler Racing is based in Orange, Calif., and competes nationally at the highest level of karting in the United States. Giebler is a resident of Huntington Beach, Calif.
