After an impressive start to the 2012 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship (ECKC) back in May, SH Karting continued their winning ways this past weekend in Quebec. Coming off a win and podium in Rotax Junior by Parker Thompson as well as three podium finishes in Rotax Senior thanks to Steven Szigeti and Jesse Lazare during the season opener at Goodwood Kartways, the SH Karting team took on the demands of Circuit ICAR in Mirabel, Quebec for Round #3 of the ECKC as well as Round #3 of the Coupe du Quebec series this past weekend. The permanent karting facility on the grounds of the now closed Mirabel International Airport posed its challenges for the talented squad, as a concrete surface and high grip levels put drivers and tuners to the test, with SH Karting rising to the challenge. Ten SH Karting and three SH Ontario team drivers took to the track for the double-header event weekend, with Lazare taking the Coupe du Quebec win on Saturday, and Szigeti and Thompson scoring wins in ECKC action on Sunday.
After taking the win on Saturday in Coupe du Quebec action, new team recruit Jesse Lazare started his ECKC Round #3 campaign off with pole position in the ultra-competitive Rotax Senior category. Teammate Steven Szigeti would clock third in the morning qualifying session with his Supertune USA engine, setting up two inside starting positions for the green Tony Kart machines for the first wheel-to-wheel action of the day. The two would maintain their starting positions during the prefinal race, laying the groundwork for the 20-lap feature race. Avoiding the carnage through the first corner after the green flag, the SH Karting duo was able to quickly pull a gap on the field with Lazare leading Szigeti. By the halfway point, Szigeti was able to make his move for the lead, passing Lazare through the turn one braking zone. Holding point from there, Szigeti went on to take a one second victory with Lazare making it a one-two finish for SH Karting.
Marc-André Lévesque would add a solid fifth place result to the SH Karting tally, while Maxime Couturier's eighth place qualifying result did not yield the final finish he had hoped for. SH Ontario's Arika White also took on the demands of the Rotax Senior class. After a solid 11th place in qualifying, White would go on to post an unfortunate DNF in the prefinal, but then bounced back to finish 17th in the final.

Red Deer, Alberta's Parker Thompson was also victorious in his Circuit ICAR effortt. Getting accustomed to the track Saturday, Thompson would earn a third place podium finish in the Coupe du Quebec action before turning the wick up Sunday for the ECKC. Missing out on pole by just 0.036, as SH Karting teammate Tommy Lemaire-Ouellet posted pole time, Thompson's effort would put him third on the grid for the prefinal race. Taking the win in the 12-lap heat, Thompson would look to come out on top for the day's final. Falling back to second on the first lap of the final, Thompson made his bid for the lead working lap three. As Thompson and his nearest competitor battled it out for the top spot with the laps winding down, the west coast kid went for a brilliant first corner, last lap pass to take his second victory in the ECKC series. Lemaire-Ouellet would recover from a DNF in the prefinal to finish an impressive seventh in the final, while Alexandre Lacroix and Alexandre Couturier would finish 14th and 15th respectively. SH Ontario's Cameron Morrison would come home with a 12th place run in the ECKC final, while Taegan Poles suffered an unfortunate DNF after her strong showing at Goodwood.
In Mini Max, SH Karting pilot Charles Robin would just miss the podium in Coupe du Quebec action with his fourth place finish in Saturday's feature race. Back on track Sunday, Robin would post eighth in the ECKC qualifying session for Round #3. Improving to fifth in the prefinal, Robin ended his efforts with a seventh place result in the final. Running just the Saturday Coupe du Quebec event, Charles Deschênes would finish in ninth.
SH Karting will next take on Rounds #4 & 5 of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship June 29-July 1 at the Mosport International Karting facility in Bowmanville, Ontario. Coupe du Quebec action will resume July 15 for Round #4 at Circuit Mont-Tremblant.
