Midwest ProKart Challenge Brings SKUSA Back to Wisconsin
Article by: Superkarts! USA

Superkarts! USA returns to the state of Wisconsin after a long hiatus, with the second stop of the Midwest ProKart Challenge set to visit the Blain’s Farm & Fleet Motorplex inside the grounds of the famed Road America course on June 30-July 1. Over 10 years ago was the last visit by the then SKUSA Mid America region series. The new Midwest ProKart Challenge is committed to rejuvenating shifterkart and TaG racing throughout the Great Lakes region. Last month was a visit to the historic TNT Kartways along the Missouri/Illinois border. This month, racers in the Badger State are encouraged to travel to Elkhart Lake, WI for a great weekend of racing.

The 4-mile Road America facility has been a staple in the motorsports world since it was developed for competition in 1955, and has never changed from its original layout. The newly-named Blain’s Farm & Fleet Motorplex was constructed in 2001 inside the ‘Carousel’ and alongside the ‘Hurry Downs’ section of the big course. It has hosted a number of national events in its 12-year history, with the local Road America Kart Club contesting local events weekly. The layout is roughly 8/10-mile with 13 turns and drastic changes in elevation from one end to the other – certainly a challenge for drivers and their machines.

The challenge for a select few will be continuing the trail to the SKUSA Midwest ProKart Challenge title, and for their work, a secured starting spot on SuperSunday for the SuperNationals XVI in Las Vegas come November. Tommy Andersen is in the driver’s seat for the title in the Kart Star Motorsports TaG Senior division. His sweep at the opening weekend helped him gain a 100-point advantage in the six-round title chase over Aaron Telitz. Andersen has good results in the past at the Motorplex, but Telitz will be gunning for his first win of the season. Nicholas Lougee and Colton Aldridge split the feature wins in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto at TNT, with Lougee leading in the championship thanks to his heat race performances. Ron Petersen put in a perfect weekend in Quincy, and now leads the S4 Master Stock Moto standings over Kris Dickson. Erik Nelson was near perfect in the JD Byrider Racing S5 Junior Stock Moto division. Nelson picked up both feature wins in a dominant performance during the opening weekend, and enters the Road America weekend with a 150-point lead over Collin Willis. John Dixon and Jim Russell Jr. will continue their battle in TaG Master. Each scored a feature win, with Dixon currently leading the standings by just 30 points. Nicholas Martin has the championship lead in TaG Junior thanks to his perfect weekend in TNT, as Tony Petersen trails by 100 points. The TaG Cadet chase is tight with Nicholas Nufer leading Ryan Joehl by just 110 points. The local option Open Shifter category welcomed two drivers at TNT Raceway – Carlen Granberg Jr. and Mike Parker.

Pre-race registration will be open until Monday, June 25 at midnight. The Road America facility will host a Friday practice from 9am to 5pm at $40 per driver. Saturday, June 30 will be the official start of the 2-day race event, with two practice sessions in the morning, followed by qualifying, two heat races and the feature. The same format will be followed on Sunday to complete round four of the MWPKC series. For any questions on the weekend, contact Stan Bryniarski at stan@superkartsusa.com or contact Road America regarding Friday practice by calling 920-892-4576.
