TM Motorsports had another weekend of podium finishes as Tanner Aman and Trey Williams both grab double podiums this weekend
Friday night TM Motorsports drivers Tanner Aman and Trey Williams would run their winged Champ Karts at Southside Speedway in Chesterfield, Virginia. Tanner Aman and Trey Williams set the pace early in the only practice of the night and were set up for the evening. Instead of drawing pills for position, they each took one lap to qualify for the fastest time. Tanner would grab the pole position for the class, with Trey Williams qualifying third just a few hundredths of a second off the pace. The field would be inverted and Tanner would have to start in the rear of the field. At the drop of the green Aman was able to get a good jump on the start, he would quickly find and opening and go three-wide into turn three and then take the lead before completing the first lap. Aman would dominate most of the 20 lap feature with Williams running him down from the third position. For six laps non-stop Tanner would find the number 00 kart running side by side with him, but someone had to give with three laps to go and unfortunately it was Aman that had to back out of the throttle. Tanner would come home with a second place finish with Williams in a strong earned third.
Saturday night would be a great night for the team as K1 RaceGear Marketing Manager Brad Harvey would join them on track setting foot on a dirt surface for the first time and racing in foreign class of kart. Brett Clark, Tanner Aman, Trey Williams, and Brad Harvey proved to be a strong force on track making up a good portion of the field. All four drivers drew pills for their starting positions for the qualifying heat race. Williams drew pole position, Aman drew fourth, Harvey drew third, and Clark rounded out the field in sixth starting position. At the drop of the green flag all four drivers quickly made their way to front, unfortunately Harvey would get out of the groove and the kart would get loose and he would lose momentum and his position which dropped him to the rear of the field, Clark would also drop to the back as well after trying to avoid another kart coming out of turn two which cause him to fall to the back as well on the final laps. Tanner Aman would take the lead on the last corner to bring home the win for the heat and set him on pole for the main with Trey Williams finishing in third.
As the night fell the track surface rapidly changed and the team prepped the karts, thanks in part to the tuners helping the team Chad Aman, Jared Rumburg, and Michael Clark all working to get the tires prepped for the changing surface.
At the start of the feature event, all TM Motorsports drivers were all be on the inside row for the start giving them a more ideal position to maintain the faster line. At the drop of the green the field would tighten up, Brad would slide up into third with Brett quickly on his back bumper in fourth as the rest of the field would shuffle to the back. With TM Motorsports in the front four positions, Brad would go a bit too deep into turn three on lap 3, to try protect the inside line, which resulted in him hitting a cone which upset the chassis and caused Harvey to work quickly to keep from spinning in front of the other drivers that were behind him. The field would scatter a bit as Brad would get the kart collected, but got out of the groove and the field would get around him. Tanner and Trey would pull away from the group and Brett and Brad would have to work hard to catch up to the front as the track conditions made the track faster than the heat. Unfortunately Brad’s kart didn’t feel right after hitting the cone and he would pull off the track and call it a night to keep from causing any damage to the kart.
Aman, Williams and the rest of the field would be almost half a track in front of Brett but that would be somewhat of an advantage as the group battled Brett was able to gain ground as he ran fast tight lines.. Five laps to go and Clark was hot on Williams' bumper looking to take the third position but a mistake with two to go cost him the position. Aman would go on to win another race on the season with Williams coming in third and Clark coming in fourth. It was a great and exhausting weekend for the crew and drivers at TM Motorsports but they had an excellent time with their sponsor K1RaceGear.com.
Brad went on to add “I had a great time this weekend with these guys; I can’t thanks these guys enough for their hospitality and the opportunity to drive for them this weekend. I really want to thank Tanner’s dad Chad and his buddy Jared Rumburg for setting up the kart for me for the main I wish I did a bit better for them with the hard work they put in Saturday night to help get me up to the front three for the short time I was there. Hopefully later this year I will get to make a return trip and redeem myself a little bit.”
We here at TM Motorsports are truly thankful to have K1Racegear.com as a sponsor and want to thank each and everyone at K1RaceGear.com for their trust and faith in TM Motorsports!
