Grand Prix of Palm Beach Announced for November 3-4

Kart racers and fans have another great event to add to their calendars this year as the Grand Prix of Palm Beach hosts its inaugural event on the weekend of November 3-4 in the beautiful West Palm Beach waterfront district. Competitors and teams will take on the challenging 13 turn, 0.7 mile course, as they strive to reach a podium finish in what is sure to become one of the most prestigious races in the Americas. The event includes plenty of off track entertainment which starts on Thursday night with the city hosting Clematis by Night, an evening of live music. Friday will be driver check-in and paddock / pit setup as the streets of West Palm Beach are shut down. Saturday starts off with plenty of practice sessions and afternoon qualifying followed by an evening of entertainment and parties. Sunday show cases the racing with a morning warm-up followed by heats, finals, and the podium presentations.

“We’ve been working on developing this event for over two years, having a vision of bringing a top shelf street race to South Florida, which is home to many race fans and professional drivers. Many drivers trace their roots back to sprint kart racing and we felt the timing was right to help show case the sport. People don’t just become motorsports fans or participants by waking up one day and making the decision, it happens by exposing people to the various opportunities. Kart racing, being the grassroots of motorsports, is both exciting to watch and participate in,” stated Todd Kovi, partner of Grand Prix Promotions.

The track design incorporates 100% kart specific safety barriers with consideration for distances between turns in order to strike a balance for drivers in terms of gearing and passing opportunities. The race is World Karting Association (WKA)-sanctioned, which provides a format and set of rules familiar to most competitors and will help us keep overall costs within racers’ budgets. Classes on the event card include Box Stock Senior and Junior, TaG, TaG Junior, TaG Masters, TaG Heavy, and Shifters (ICC, Stock Moto, Masters). Registration will be provided on-line and is scheduled to open beginning of September. Racers and teams interested in participating can follow the event on the website and facebook for regular updates. Questions should be directed to todd@grandprixofpalmbeach.com

“With more than $30 million in improvements by the city, including new pavement, the spectacular views, and amenities - we expect the quality of the event will exceed everyone’s expectations by a wide margin,” continued Kovi.

The event offers something for everyone with an interactive kid zone sponsored by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Palm Beach Area Chapter. Included are the amazing cars from Supercar Week, an annual spectacle that brings millions of dollars of exotic high performance street and race cars in a display of art and speed. Spectators and participants will be entertained by bands on Saturday evening followed by Ginger’s Dance Party, overlooking the picturesque waterfront. Included are a show case of the area restaurants, bars, and night clubs which provide the back drop for a fun filled weekend.
