The final day of on-track action was just as sizzling as the weather in Phoenix, Arizona as the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour MG Tires SpringNationals was completed on Sunday. The skies were clear and the temperatures soured to triple digits at the PKRA Formula K Raceway, challenging the drivers and mechanics alike. Thankfully, there were no reported health issues with the weather for drivers nor those in attendance, and the on-time schedule set by the SKUSA Track Staff put the final event to be completed just after 5:00 pm. Although their were no red flags on the day, drivers were still on edge throughout the schedule as some poor decisions were made. Despite this, the great racing that was provided for a majority of the time trumped those bad moments, as eight drivers stood at the top of the podium to end the weekend. Fritz Leesmann and Phil DeLaO led the way with top honors in the headline categories, both scoring the win on Sunday and the event winner $1,000 check for S1 and TaG Senior.

SATURDAY, APRIL 21
The first round of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour SpringNationals provided a day full of action and excitement around the PKRA Formula K Raceway in Phoenix, AZ. Heat was a major factor on the day with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees for much of the day. The SKUSA staff dug dip, working a long 12-hour day to make sure all the full action went into the books. On-track, the story was a day of first-time winners, as all eight feature victors earned their first Pro Tour Main Event trophy. In the headline categories, Phil DeLaO walked away with the TaG Senior category for a perfect point day while Joey Wimsett outran the veterans in S1 for his debut win.

This weekend begins the third season of the Superkarts! USA Pro Tour with the running of the MG Tires SpringNationals. The Phoenix Kart Racing Association (PKRA) Formula K Raceway will host the April 20-22 event with over 175 drivers in eight categories set to do battle for SpringNationals glory and move ahead during step one of three towards a Pro Tour title. 2012 will be a year of progression, both for the series itself and the drivers within the program. A number of champions from a year ago, along with many others, are moving up the internal SKUSA Ladder System, in TaG and Stock Moto, with a number of championship contenders returning as well.
