| WKA Announces New Manufacturers Cup Series Title, Update Rules and More News |
| Article by: WKA PitBoard |
WKA is proud to announce its national 2-cycle sprint series will now be known as the WKA Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series.
The new title replaces the former WKA George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series driven by Mazda tag, which was in place for the national tour over the past couple decades.
The new title brings Mazda to the forefront of the series name with Bridgestone. Both international entities have aided WKA with an immeasurable amount of sponsorship and support for a number of years, and officials felt Mazda was deserving of a more prominent place in WKA's most successful national series' title.
English grammar experts and enthusiasts also will notice the apostrophe has been deleted from "Manufacturers," giving the series name a cleaner look in logos, literature, etc., as well as staying consistent with proper English grammar.
Manufacturers Cup to return to traditional lap count format at PIRC
The WKA Mazda / Bridgestone Manufacturers Cup Series will return to its traditional lap count procedures at the CRG America Nationals May 4-6 at Pittsburgh Int'l Race Complex through the remainder of the 2012 season.
Lap count will be the same for all classes. Lap counts for pre-finals and finals is To Be Announced at each national event.
New Accounting Procedure in Place for Year End MFG Championship Award
For 40 years, the baseline for any WKA award received, whether it be as a driver, sponsor, crew member, family etc, has been about prestige. And with that prestige comes an accrual formula, whether it has been for points or amount of victories.
And in most cases, the formula has been a success, determining the champions in all capacities of the sport on an annual basis.
However, in recent years, with a few classes in certain WKA national series registering only1, possibly 2 entries, the procedure for determining one of the most prestigious awards in WKA history has become somewhat tainted, forcing WKA Officials to take a closer look at the famed Manufacturers Championship Award.
Given to the top chassis manufacturer in each series annually, the award has taken on more meaning in recent years than ever before, giving a manufacturer true bragging rights for their product, thus lending to a larger profit margin at years end in chassis and component sales.
Realizing the enormous impact this award has for the industry, WKA Officials have agreed to modify the points accrual system for the award. Effective in 2012, any classes that have 2 or fewer entries at a WKA national event, will not be eligible to receive chassis points. Any classes with 3 or more entries will still receive the same amount of points as always.
With more chassis manufacturers coming into the sport, WKA feels this is only fair to all companies who spend an inordinate amount of money to promote and sell their chassis to competitors.

MARDELA MAKES DATE CHANGE TO DIRT SUPER REGIONAL
Citing conflicts with several school graduations during that time frame, officials at Mardela Speedway have elected to change the date of their WKA Super Dirt Regional event.
Originally scheduled to be run the weekend of June 9, which would serve as Race# 3 of the 6 race Divisional program, the double points event, which also serves as a Daytona Dirt World Championship qualifier, will now be run August 4, which is race #5 in the series.
Winners in the classes on that day will not only receive double points for their efforts, but the first place effort will also net a guaranteed starting spot in the most prolific dirt karting event in the nation at Daytona in December. |
