Team News: DeFrancesco Racing - Florida Winter Tour Review

As the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour (FWT) season continues to wind down, DeFrancesco Racing team drivers, Devlin and Lachlan DeFrancesco, competed in the final event weekend of the Vortex TaG Cadet championship. Taking place at the 6/10th of a mile Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida, Devlin managed to score a top five result while Lachlan consistently ran inside the top twenty throughout the weekend.

"It was a disappointing weekend for us," explained Team Manager and Driver Coach Nick Mitchell. "Devlin showed the speed to run upfront but the results never materialized. Lachlan had one of his better weekends of racing and managed two good finishes and proved that he is not afraid of the wheel-to-wheel competition."

Saturday morning would bring cool and cloudy conditions to Ocala Gran Prix as 28 Vortex TaG Cadet drivers would line up for their qualifying efforts. Turning the third quickest time of the session was older brother Devlin while Lachlan would qualify in the front half of the field with a solid 13th place effort. The late morning heat race would see the duo fall back slightly as Devlin maintained his top five result while Lachlan fell down the order to 16th.

With rain threatening the area, the DeFrancesco duo would line up on the grid for Saturday's main event. A few minor sprinkles would cause a little drama before the start of the event, but clouds broke and provided the young drivers with dry racing conditions. Lachlan would hold station in his 16th place starting position to claim another top twenty finish while Devlin, who had a fierce battle with a pair of drivers during the opening laps, would fall back but manage a solid top five result.

Back to the Ocala Gran Prix facility for Sunday's racing action, the DeFrancesco brothers would do it all over again with the final event day of the Formula Kart weekend of competition. Looking to finish of the season strong, Devlin bested the pair of drivers with another solid qualifying effort turning the fourth quickest time of the session while younger brother Lachlan continued his improvement to clock in 14th.

With skies threatening, the Vortex TaG Cadet drivers managed to get one more dry session in before the rain began to fall heavily. Both DeFrancesco's would have a tough battle as Devlin would fall back to ninth and Lachlan just outside the top twenty. With a heavy downpour for the final, drivers would switch to their wet treaded tires and do battle in tricky conditions. Devlin quickly moved forward from his fifth row starting position and ran in the top three while Lachlan steadily improved throughout the race.

When the final checkered flag had flown, Lachlan would cross the stripe in the 18th position while Devlin would encounter last lap trouble and was forced to retire being classified in the 22nd position.

A quick turnaround for DFR will see both drivers back on track this weekend. While Devlin will travel overseas to the WSK Masters Series event in Italy, Lachlan will be back on track at the international Rotax Max Challenge program at the final round of the Florida Winter Tour.
