| Track News: Whiteland Raceway Undergoes Major Renovations for 2012 |
| |
Whiteland Raceway Park, arguably the nation’s oldest kart track, is undergoing a major facelift before the start of the 2012 season. Improvements include lobby renovations, replacement of the scoring tower, track surface repair & reseal, and an updated rental kart fleet.
The modernization programs will be complimented with the return of eleven Saturday night races for the “Chainbreakers Kart Club” return to their roots!
For years, the scoring tower at Whiteland Raceway has been in a state of deterioration but has also been a landmark of sorts for many karters. While the familiar base will remain, the top level will be totally rebuilt and retain its original character. In addition, the lobby, pro shop, and office are undergoing updates including new epoxy floors and other improvements to brighten and enhance the reception area for karters and guests. Both are scheduled to be completed before 4/7.
“We’ve been planning this for the past couple of years,” said track owner Mike Swails. “I’m excited they’re all coming together in time for the start of the 2012 season. And to get back to the Saturday night sprint races under the lights will be the icing on the cake!”
In addition to the facility improvements, the historic .5-mile track will get a number of repairs including patchwork and resealing. Weather permitting the repairs will be done by mid-May, the highly competitive track will be the best shape for racing that its’ been in decades!
Finally, the WRP rental kart fleet will be getting a “facelift”. The fleet of Birel rental karts are the backbone of the track’s budding concession kart business that expose hundreds upon thousands of newcomers to karting each year.
Whiteland Raceway Park is located 30 minutes south of Indianapolis off I-65. The track is open daily (weather permitting) for rental kart and competitive kart testing. The Chainbreakers Kart Club races at WRP throughout the season. For more information visit http://www.whitelandraceway.us or call 317-535-7291. |
