| Team News: Ten Wins and Sixteen Podiums for OGP in Florida Karting Championship Series |
| |
Not expecting to out do round one results, Ocala Gran Prix drivers put on a clinic during the second event in the Florida Karting Championship Series (FKCS). Taking place at their home facility in Ocala, Florida, Ocala Gran Prix (OGP) went on to score ten main event victories and an astounding sixteen podium results. Picking up two wins each were team drivers Nick Neri, Oliver Askew, Ashley Rogero and Olivier Bellanger while Jason Heffner and John Dalton added to the team's win tally.
"Every race we keep adding to OGP's resume," expressed Jorge Arellano. "The team is going well, everyone is working with each other and we are having success. I am looking forward to our next few events."
Through an almost total domination in the senior categories, Ocala Gran Prix drivers swept the first five positions in the TaG Senior class with Nick Neri picking up the victory. Joining the multi-time champion on the podium was Brandon Salyer and Annie Hayden while Jonathon Kotyk and Andrew Evans rounded out the top five in Sunday's rain race action. The previous day would see all five drivers compete in the Rotax Senior class where Nick Neri would also claim the top spot. An exchange of positions behind him would see Evans cross the stripe in second with Kotyk filling out the podium. Salyer would have a strong run to come home fourth while Hayden would cross the line in sixth, narrowly missing out on another top five effort.
The junior categories would see a pair of drivers sweep the main event wins as Oliver Askew and Ashley Rogero continued to flex their muscles. Rogero, a World Karting Association Manufacturer's Cup winner, would stand atop the podium in both KPP Junior and Yamaha Junior while recent Florida Winter Tour winner Oliver Askew would take the top honors in both the TaG Junior and Rotax Junior categories.
Joining Askew with top five results in TaG Junior were Brian Lockwood who came home fifth and Alex Hornborg who crossed the stripe in seventh. Both drivers would also compete in the Rotax Junior class and exchange positions, as Hornborg would claim the fifth position and Lockwood seventh. Ocala's Hunter Folsom would make the move to the junior ranks and after going on his head in turn three in Saturday's TaG Junior main event, the up and coming driver would claim a 15th place result in Sunday's rain soaked Rotax Junior class.
Olivier Bellanger and Mathias Ramirez added another four top five results in Rotax Mini Max and the TaG Cadet class. Bellanger would get the best of the fields in both main events taking home his first double race win of the season while Ramirez would finish fourth in Mini Max and stand on the podium in TaG Cadet with an impressive third place result. Ramirez would also see action in the Cadet Junior Sportsman class where he came home sixth.
Another pair of wins would come from the TaG Masters and TaG Heavy categories as Jason Heffner and John Dalton both stood on the top step of the podium. Heffner took the checkers in TaG Masters while Dalton crossed the stripe in sixth. Dalton was able to best the field in the TaG Heavy class on Sunday and also added a third place podium result in Rotax Masters while Heffner claimed the seventh position.
Competing with a broken arm, Ocala Gran Prix pilot Dylan Gennaro would see action in three different classes. Claiming a pair of sixth place finishes in Rotax Micro Max and Yamaha Sportsman, the Floridian would struggle in the Cadet Junior Sportsman class coming home 15th. Fellow Micro Max pilot Zachary Hollingshead had a good run and was able to claim a top-ten result in eighth.
Ocala Gran Prix will enjoy no time off, as the team will compete in the North Florida Rotax Max Challenge event this weekend in preparation for the fifth and sixth rounds of the Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour.
