| Midwest ProKart Challenge to Re-fire SKUSA Program in Great Lakes Region |
| Article by: Superkarts! USA |
Superkarts! USA is thrilled to announce the rebirth of its flagship series in the Great Lakes region, which will take area karters to facilities in Missouri, Wisconsin and Indiana. The program is now dubbed the Midwest ProKart Challenge and will be the leader in shifterkart and TaG competition in the region, headed by long-time SKUSA team member Stan Bryniarski. The series will be co-managed directly through the SKUSA National office in California. The growth of the SKUSA regional program is continuing, bringing all of the participation benefits to racers in this area of the country. Races have now been confirmed at TNT Kartways, the Road America Motorplex and New Castle Motorsports Park.
The opening round of the series will take the drivers to TNT Kartways in West Quincy, Missouri on the May 19-20 weekend. This facility has played host to many major national events in its 50+ years of operation and will launch the new Midwest ProKart Challenge. The unique sound of gearbox engines and single-speed TaG powerplants will then fire up the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex at Road America on July 7-8. The track has just recently invested in grinding its surface to eliminate the rough nature that has come to falsely characterize the facility in recent years, providing MPKC drivers with the best experience possible. The program will be capped on August 18-19 at the ever-popular New Castle Motorsports Park in Indiana. Each weekend will include Friday practice and separate race days on Saturday and Sunday. Drivers who attend all three events will also put themselves near the front of the queue for SKUSA’s new Preferred Entry Program for the SuperNationals.
Midwest ProKart Challenge – 2012 Schedule
May 19-20: TNT Kartways – West Quincy, MO
July 7-8: Road America Motorplex – Elkhart Lake, WI
August 18-19: New Castle Motorsports Park – New Castle, IN
“I’m very excited to have been given the opportunity to step in full-time with the SKUSA family,” commented Bryniarski, who will personally manage both the Midwest and Rocky Mountain ProKart Challenge series, in addition to his duties as the SKUSA Pro Tour Director of Operations. “We’ve put together a great series at three excellent tracks, all focused on re-inventing the former Central States Challenge. Quincy, Road America and New Castle will provide unique challenges to our drivers, and I look forward to seeing the competition unfold.”
The Midwest ProKart Challenge will run the full SKUSA class line-up, including Stock Moto shifterkarts and the four-level TaG program. Pending interest in the class, the MPKC will also provide a venue for ICC and Mod-Moto drivers by offering up an ‘Open Shifter’ category, stepping up as THE place to race shifterkarts in the Midwest. As is included in all of the SKUSA regional programs, each series champion in a class offered at the SKUSA SuperNationals will receive the ultra-valuable ‘free pass’ into their SuperSunday main event. Regardless of how they perform in the heat races or the Last Chance Qualifier, they will have a spot on the grid come SuperSunday.

“The Midwest Region is historic ground for the Superkarts! USA program, and to have Stan at the helm only serves to make it more exciting,” added Tom Kutscher, SKUSA President. “Our new focus is to re-invent the series in the area, and we’ll be focusing on providing gearbox racers in the Midwest with a straight-up SKUSA program. The series will also be beneficial to all the Stock Moto and TaG racers in the region, as it will give them a chance to run a SKUSA regional event to lock themselves into the SuperNationals Preferred Entry Program. It’s a priority for us right now to ensure that our regular racers get a chance to run in Vegas, as we expect every class to sell out this November.”
SKUSA will extend its special Vortex Mini Rok engine loaner program to the Midwest ProKart Challenge, giving potential TaG Cadet drivers the opportunity to have free usage of an engine should they commit to the full season. The TaG Cadet program has enjoyed steady growth over the past two years, and solid numbers are expected for the regional program -- in addition to the Pro Tour and the SuperNationals in November.
