Baker Racing Engines, Margay Step Up as Early Product Sponsors for Jacksonville Gold Cup Money Race
Article by: WKA PitBoard

With the roar of karting motors just a little over a week away for the Barnes Paving Nationals March 1-3 at 103rd Street Sports Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, the first motors to competitively crank for the new year will be those of the Animal Heavy Money Race, part of the Friday festivities that will again kick off each racing weekend for the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series in 2012.

What has made the Money Race festivities so popular each Friday of a Gold Cup racing weekend is not so much the run for a financial payday, but the drama of finding out who will start where by virtue of a blind draw at the beginning of the event, the standing start at the beginning of the race, and the halftime break which features a pill draw by the leader at that point to determine the possible inversion of positions, all leading to a sometimes very dramatic finish, culminating with an tidy little payday for the winner and subsequent top five.

But the true beauty of the Money Race is taking care of all the participants, either by Money or Product.

Leading the product charge for the series first race will be Steve Baker of Baker Racing Engines, again sweetening the pot for a few drivers that may finish out of the money. Baker will be providing Gift Certificates to many participants again this year. Additionally, the re-emergence of Margay Racing Products to the Gold Cup fold will add to what should be a great weekend of racing at Jacksonville. Keith Freber, proprietor of the St Louis based company, will be giving away 1 set of Firestone YKD Tires to a participant in the Money Race field, thus providing a large financial boost to 1 driver in the field for the weekend.

Leading the charge of heavy weights in the All Star race will be defending Jax Money Race winner Chris Wells along with multi-time Money Race winner Gary Lawson. Drivers such as Jim Lipari, Dylan and Jason Zobkiw, Travis Manning, Connor Lund, Zachary Deshaies and many more will be just a few of the names to watch out for all weekend long. Adding former Gold Cuppers Mike Greiner and Richie Kuhn back to the fold, along with what should be a great turnout of Clones and the all new X30 Junior and Senior 2 Cycle classes, and the Money Race is just the tipoff of a star studded, packed weekend of racing hosted by the North Florida Kart Club and WKA.

Any sponsors wishing to add to the list of product sponsors for the Money Race can contact WKA's Buddy Long at (704) 455-1606, ext 19, or by email at buddy@worldkarting.com

South Carolina Dirt Series joins new WKA Dirt Program
As finishing touches are being placed on a new WKA Speedway Pavement program for 2012, officials are busy following a similar path for the Speedway Dirt Series program for the upcoming season.

With gas prices heading toward the $4 mark by spring, the intent is to save the competitor as much money as possible on travel expense, all the while refortifying a strong local base of competition at the Divisional level. This move will allow many competitors to continue racing for a national championship, primarily in their own back yard, while cutting travel, meal, and hotel expenses down dramatically.

Joining the new program will be the South Carolina Dirt Divisional Series at Possum Kingdom Super Speedway in Belton, South Carolina.

Jayson Brown and the SCDDS will host four WKA Divisional Races in 2012 at Possum Kingdom, one of which will be labeled a Super Regional. On the Super Regional date, competitors will run for double points with all class winners in the nationally recognized WKA classes gaining guaranteed starting spots in the December Dirt World Championships at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

Additionally, all SCDDS Divisional champions will be granted guaranteed starting spots in their respective classes as well. Should guaranteed starters elect to run at Daytona, they MUST take a qualifying lap. However, any guaranteed starter will start no further back than 10th in their respective fields, another perk for those that have earned their way into the field.

It is also important to note the Daytona event is still open to ALL competitors, not just the guaranteed starters.

While discussions continue with many other dirt divisionals and dirt karting groups, the bottom line is beating the gas prices at the pump and keeping the momentum of karting heading in a most positive direction.

Here are the dates for the South Carolina Dirt Divisional Series for 2012.
May 26: Divisional
June 23: Divisional
July 28: Super Regional
Sept 15: Divisional
Pacific Mountain Central Eastern International Western Canada
