Driver News: Ozz Negri Set for Red Bull Kart Fight

Michael Shank Racing driver Ozz Negri will be back in karting action this week as he is set to race Thursday in the Red Bull Kart Fight at the Performance Racing Industry show in Orlando, Florida.

The event is set to attract stars from across the American motorsports landscape, with IZOD IndyCar drivers and NASCAR Sprint Cup racers populating the “All-Star” category. But the fight won’t just be between the drivers you see on television every Sunday, as the field will also include nearly 30 of the best karters in the nation.

Negri, who will be piloting the new Praga kart from Intrepid Florida with support from JC Karting, will be carrying the flag for GRAND-AM as the only full-time Rolex Sports Car Driver in the field. With a run to fifth place in the prestigious event already on his racing resume, Negri is looking to put that experience to good use with another strong result this week.

“I’ve been karting a lot with Jon (Pew) since the last race at Mid-Ohio, and you are always eager to do more!” said Negri, who will serve as a driver coach and mentor to 2011 British Formula 3 Champion Felipe Nasr next week as the future star takes his first laps in a Daytona Prototype ahead of the Rolex 24.

“I think this race reminds me a little of the Rolex 24, because there are drivers from all over that you haven’t seen in a long time. It’s a relaxed environment and everyone is having a good time, but then when it comes time to go racing, it is very, very competitive--we all want to win this thing! I’m looking forward to working with the guys from JC Racing once again, and hopefully we can have some fun and come out on top.”

Michael Shank Racing will campaign a full season Daytona Prototype effort for 2012 which opens with the 50th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona January 26-29. The team will be announcing drivers and team partners ahead of the Roar Before the 24 Test Days at Daytona.
