JM Racing is ready for Rounds 7 & 8 of the CART Stars of Tomorrow in Canada
After an impressive start to the 2003 CART Stars of Tomorrow’s series, where Andrew Alfonso won round two in ICA, JM Racing/ Team Avanti have been testing during the August break in preparation for rounds seven and eight at the new CARTBC circuit in Chilliwack, British Columbia this weekend.
Sebastian Andrade, who finished fourth in round six and qualified off pole in round five at Infineon, has been busy testing and racing in Ecuador in preparation for the next rounds. Andrade, who JM Racing feels is on the verge of collecting his first win, has showed a lot of speed throughout the season, but bad luck has hampered his results. He was running second in round five when he had a spectacular accident that ended his race.
Andrew Alfonso has also been busy testing during the August break and could set himself up to regain the ICA championship lead. Alfonso comes off a pole in round six and a fourth place in round five. Alfonso looked set to win his second race, in round six, when a 50-cent piece broke and ended his day. Mathias Calderon has also been preparing for the next rounds by keeping sharp in his native Ecuador. Calderon has been a consistent top 10 finisher this season and looks set to get his first podium in Canada. The ever-improving Scott Meadow comes off his best finish of the year in Sonoma, and looks forward to improving from the seventh place he earned in round five. Meadow has also been testing ICA as well as racing his Rotax Max Avanti.
Barron Avanti ICC driver, Billy Johnson, had an eventful month of August. He qualified for the Red Bull Driver’s Search by finishing second against 24 drivers at a karting event at Irwindale Speedway and won a Duffy at the IKF Shifter Kart Grand Nationals in the Super Stock Honda 125cc Class. He recently competed in the semi-final phase of the Red Bull Driver Search search in a Skip Barber Formula Dodge at Sebring late last week. Fellow ICC Avanti driver, Sean Neilson, has been winning races in the spec ICC class of the My-Chron 3 Golden State Cup and testing his Star’s Avanti-TM as well in preparation for the British Colombia rounds. Jonathan Wright, who is a multi-time race winner in shifter kart events in California, will be making his Star’s debut in a Barron Avanti TM in ICC. Wright has shown speed in testing and looks set to challenge for the top honors in extremely competitive CART Stars of Tomorrow ICC class.
