Famous for its Formula One Grand-Prix and its Rally, Monaco also knows how to give Karting its just deserts by hosting in mid-October the now traditional Monaco Kart Cup. And to add character to this event, the circuit implemented for the occasion uses part of the track frequented in May by F1 cars, in particular the “S” of the Swimming Pool and the Rascasse corner.

Scheduled for 16 and 17 October 2010, the Monaco Kart Cup gathers a very high-quality field both in the KF3 category (Juniors) and in KZ2. The selection committee of the ACM has also had to be solicited as the number of entry applications was quite superior to that of available places. 45 KF3 Drivers have finally been retained for the “Junior Monaco Grand Prix”, and they will be 34 in the KZ2 category. As usual, the programme of the meeting will be completed by a 6-hour endurance event, where amateur Drivers will be able to compete with a few VIP and seeded Drivers on identical “turnkey” KF4 karts.

Already very strong in 2009, the KZ2 field will be even more so this year, with the Dutchman Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM) at the start, namely the 2010 European Champion, who also won the World Cup just a few weeks ago. Last year, Lammers had dominated the Prefinal under the Monaco rock and had started the Final in the lead before being betrayed by the water pump of his engine. He will therefore be determined to take his revenge especially against the one who prevailed twelve months ago, the Frenchman Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-Maxter). Runner-up to Lammers in the European Championship and World Cup, Jérémy Iglésias (Intrepid-TM) will be a serious contender, and so will be Manuel Renaudie (PCR-TM), Paolo De Conto (Energy-TM), Thomas Mich (Birel-TM), Jack Hawksworth (Maddox-Parilla), Norman Nato (CRG-Maxter), Pierre Ragues (Sodi-TM), Viktor Öberg (Gillard-Parilla), as well as Simo Puhakka (PCR-TM).

Concerning the KF3 13-15 year-olds, the entry list also looks very promising with the European Champion and World Cup winner Alexander Albon (Intrepid-TM), who already wears the colours of a well-known energetic drink... also very present in Formula One. In the streets of Monaco, Albon will compete against some Drivers who fought against him for wins throughout the season, like the Driver from the United Arab Emirates Edward Jones (Zanardi-TM), the Monaco Competitor Charles Leclerc (Sodi-Parilla) or France’s Pierre Gasly (Sodi-Parilla), Léo Roussel (Sodi-Parilla), Rémy Deguffroy (Tony Kart-Vortex) and Esteban Ocon (Exprit-Vortex). Amongst the front-runners, there are also some of the Drivers who animated the new CIK-FIA Academy Trophy, in particular the Frenchman Anthoine Hubert (Tony Kart-Vortex), the Estonian Hans Villemi (Birel-Parilla), the Luxembourg Driver Oliver Thill (Tony Kart-Vortex) and the Swiss Séverin Amweg (Tony Kart-Vortex).

Qualifying practice and heats will be held throughout this coming Saturday 16 October and in the morning of Sunday 17 October. Prefinals and Finals on Sunday afternoon from 14h10. Results to be followed in real time on http://www.cikfia.com
