Jason LeCocq snared the biggest wins of his karting career when he was victorious in two categories during the KTEQ Rentals Western Australian State Championships held at the Cockburn International Karting Raceway in Henderson, Perth across the weekend.

In the Junior National Heavy category LeCocq had a great battle with fastest qualifier Brodie Kostecki and fellow front-runner Nicholas Rowe throughout the final before crossing the line one-kart length clear of his rivals.

The youngster’s victory in the high performance Junior Clubman category proved to be another hard fought affair. An incident between Scott Foster and Cory Hayes brought out the red flag early in the race forcing the competitors to regroup for a single file restart over the remainder of the journey.

CIK Stars of Karting competitor Jake Klarich had been one of the pace setters across the weekend but when it mattered most it was LeCocq who proved superior to claim the win.

Klarich did however have a reason to smile when he took out the Junior National Light category.

With the top dozen competitors running nose-to-tail and swapping positions lap after lap the racing in the Clubman Heavy category was intense with the likes of Brad Fitch, Kip Foster, Remo Luciani and Adam Levi battling at the front of the field.

When Foster made a move on Fitch for the race lead at the end of the main straight while travelling at more than 100 km/h the pair touched and Foster flipped out of the race and Fitch ended up in the sand trap.

The demise of Fitch and Foster allowed Levi, who narrowly avoided the incident, to take the win ahead of Matt Elsdon. Luciani, who’s run was hampered by being forced to avoid the mid-race incident, crossed the line third.

While he may have been disappointed with third in the Clubman Heavy category Luciani had reason to smile when he secured the 51st State Championship of his career in the Clubman Over 40s category. Finishing second was Luciani’s long-time rival Greg Dicker.

After winning all of the qualifying races in the Open Class aboard his Gearbox kart Adam Marjoram was forced to settle for second place behind Daniel Curry in the final. Marjoram also finished second after a last lap pass on Deepal Kandola in the Leopard Light class that was taken out by Andrew Prince.

BD Soutar Dawson used all of his local knowledge to snare the win in Clubman Light over interstate visitors Matthew Panella (SA) and Joel Smith (Vic).

Other victories across the weekend went to Nick Mitic (Midgets), Tyler Morrison (Rookies), Brendan Shugg (Senior National Light), Lloyd Nicholson (Senior National Heavy), Dean Whitmore (Rotax Light), Blake Mills (Rotax Heavy), Lee Foster (Clubman Super Heavy) and Brad Fitch (Leopard Heavy).
