The second round of the season reshuffles the WSK scoreboard and with this second appointment at the South Garda circuit in Lonato (BS), the Championship has concluded the first Italian phase. In three weeks therefore, the international karting along with the WSK Euro Series will move to Spain after a weekend that has considerably altered the rankings.

The twenty-seven French guy from Saint-Etienne Armand Convers (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) was successful in achieving a Super KF victory that seemed to be within his reach already from the previous round in Muro Leccese. But it was no easy task seeing that Convers had to keep at bay drivers of exceptional calibre such as Marco Ardigò from Brescia and English Gary Catt (both on a Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), throughout the final race. The two teammates took turns at chasing the French driver who lost even the lead for a certain time. In the crucial phase however, Convers showed his best and moved into a consistent lead keeping him safe not only from Ardigo’s attack (finishing then second) but also from a Sauro Cesetti from Ascoli (Birel-BMB-Vega) coming closer. The latter, performing very well in the SuperPole, was defeated at last in the challenge for third place against Catt. Nevertheless, the WSK ranking is still very tight since the new leader Convers is at the top at 100 points but only by 8-point lead over Ardigò.

Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-TM-Dunlop) is the new winner in such an unpredictable KZ1 Championship. The French guy mastered well all the opponents in the qualifying heats to emerge then finally, both in the Pre-final and Final. Abbasse withstood constantly Belgian Jonathan Thonon (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop) and managed to stay always in the lead after his countryman Manuel Renaudie (PCR-TM-Dunlop) had sprinted at first. Thonon on the contrary, lost a second place because of French Norman Nato’s excellent recovery (CRG-Maxter-Dunlop). The Belgian driver however, stay always at the top of the ranking above Dutch Bas Lammers (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) now sixth, and above Abbasse. In the KZ2 separate ranking, Italian Paolo De Conto is still the leader especially after a second win in Lonato, over a blonde Dutch Beitske Visser (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) and Czech Jan Midrla (Birel-TM-Dunlop).

Winning all the heats in KF2, Ignazio D’Agosto from Southern Italy (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) was the favourite for win but he suffered from problems with the tyres just in the final phase. In the same time, Nicolaj Moller Madsen (Energy-TM-Vega) launching a relentless attack, won non-stop both Pre-final and Final and achieved a double goal to shoot to the top of the Championship ranking and beat D’Agosto. Jacob Nortoft (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) and Max Klinkby (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) performed very well and finishing second and third respectively mounted a complete Danish podium.

Dutch Max Verstappen’s early supremacy in KF3 has been blocked. The latter, after leading a good part of the Final, was forced to give in at last to English Alexander Albon (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) pushing closely behind him. This way, Albon managed to stay in the lead until the finishing line whereas Max Vestappen achieved a second place profitable to consolidate his lead over the Dutch driver in the championship ranking. His countryman Peter Hoevenaars (Intrepid-TM-Dunlop) concluded third but in the championship is second above Albon.
