 | | Loris Spinelli celebrates the Margutti Trophy in the KF3 division |
The 21st edition of the Andrea Margutti Trophy was characterized by a high level of competiveness and gripping races. For the second year in a row the venue for the meeting was the 7 Laghi Circuit at Castelletto di Branduzzo (Pavia – Italy). 200 drivers took part in the event subdivided in four different categories: KF3, KF2, KZ2 and 60 Mini. The drivers came from 24 different countries, to confirm, if necessary, that the event organized by the Pellegrini Family has reached an outstanding position among the international karting events. The event was born to revive the memory of the young driver Andrea Margutti who tragically died in 1989 at Parma during a practice session. As usual, Andrea’s relatives were at the event together with the CSAI executives: for all of them there was great satisfaction for the continuation of this beautiful and moving tradition of the trophy.
After Friday and Saturday’s uncertain weather, on Sunday the race was rain-conditioned. The rain exalted drivers’ skill – anyway many drivers went off track - and made all the races absolutely gripping for the attendance. The drivers who finally managed to win their categories and to write their names on the winners list – a list which has the name of Giancarlo Fisichella at its top – were the following: fourteen year old Loris Spinelli (Intrepid-Tm) in KF3; sixteen year old Danish driver Jacob Nortoft (FA-Vortex) in KF2; the twenty-five year old German driver Simon Solgat (Birel-Tm) in KZ2; the eleven year old driver Alessio Lorandi from Brescia (Tony Kart-Vortex) in 60 Mini.
In KF3, Spinelli dominated both the pre-final and the final, never leaving the head of the race. Esteban Ocon (Exprit-Vortex) was the runner up and Fabio Cavallaro (Tony Kart-Tm) got third place when, with two laps to go, managed to overtake Federico Savona (Parolin-Iame).
In KF2 smooth win for the Danish driver Jacob Nortoft (FA-Vortex), who took the lead at the start of the final and never left it till the chequered flag. Andrea Dalè (Birel-Bmb) was among his toughest rivals: he played a leading role both in the qualifying heats and in the pre-final, but then he was immediately obliged to retire because of troubles with the electrical system. So, Stefano Cucco (Birel-Iame) was the runner up, after recovering from the initial fourth position. The English driver Gilbert Mitchell (Energy-Tm) managed to get on the third step of the podium after defeating his country-mate Lindsey Butcher and the Russian driver Michail Ratsa.
In the gear-shift category – KZ2 – the German driver Simon Solgat (Birel-Tm) got the win, at the end of a rather smooth race. The English driver Jack Hawksworth (Maddox-Parilla), winner of last year edition, was the runner up. Yuri Lucati (Brm-Tm), after a regular race, got the third place. Antonio Piccioni (Parolin-Sgm) did well too, recovering up to the fourth place.
In the junior category 60 Mini, the win was achieved by Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Vortex), after an initial duel with the Romanian driver Dionisios Marcu (Top Kart-Parilla) who eventually arrived tenth. Alessandro Stura (Tibikart-Iame) managed to arrive second, after resisting to the dramatic recovery of the Russian driver Robert Shwartzman (Birel-Iame), who started from the last positions of the starting grid because of a crash during the pre-final.
