Three kart racers from Utah representing the Miller Kart Racing Team had a very successful weekend at the recent TAG World Championship event at Grand Junction Motor Speedway in Grand Junction, Colo.
Austin Versteeg, 10, of Salt Lake City, qualified on pole and finished first in both the TAG Mini Max and TAG Cadet classes. He also set a track record in the Mini Max class.
Colby Yardley, 15, of West Jordan, Utah, qualified on pole and won the TAG Junior Rotax race, and also qualified on pole and finished second in the TAG Spec Moto class, setting a new track record in the process.
Keenan Schmitke, 18, of Bluffdale, Utah, qualified second to Colby and went on to take the victory in the TAG Spec Moto event.
All three of these young drivers are products of the Utah Karting Championship at Miller Motorsports Park’s Miller Karting Complex, each having won numerous championships since the track opened in 2006. The program was developed by Miller Motorsports Park to encourage and develop kart racing in Utah and the surrounding region.
“We are very proud of our young racers,” said Garrett Potter, Miller Kart Racing Team manager. “It has been wonderful to watch these young men grow and mature into championship-winning racers. They did a great job representing Miller Motorsports Park and Utah in the World Championship event, and each of them has a bright future ahead of them. We look forward to watching their progress in the years to come.”
The next appearance for the Miller Kart Racing Team will be at the SKUSA Super Nationals in Las Vegas, November 18-22. The Miller Kart Racing Team would like to thank the Miller Motorsports Park staff, as well as Birel and CRG Karts.
