Meira and Capps Solidified for MKP at All-Stars Karting Classic

The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series and Motorama Kart Parts (MKP) are pleased to announce that IndyCar Series driver Vitor Meira and NHRA competitor Ron Capps will represent Birel and the MKP Team in the Masters division at the 2008 Performance Racing Industry (PRI) All-Stars Karting Classic. With the event taking place on December 11th at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, both Meira and Capps along with Karter division entry Bill McLaughlin Jr. will look to win at the prestigious event.

“MKP is another returning team to the All-Stars Karting Classic,” stated Stars of Karting Jeff Swoboda. “As one of Birel’s largest dealers, MKP will field three entries in the annual event. Returning to the Masters class will be Ron Capps. The NHRA standout was one of the fastest drivers in last year’s event and will once again look to be the quickest of the drag drivers on December 11th. Vitor Meira is a true winner and competes in karting on a regular basis. Look for him and his Birel chassis to be fast right out of the box.”

Capps, who is the driver of the Don Schumacher Racing Napa Auto Parts Top Fuel Funny Car, finished eighth in the 2008 NHRA Powerade Series Championship. The multi-time race winner and first driver ever to break the 315mph barrier in 1993 in a Funny Car will trade his 8000hp rocket ship in for a Birel chassis on December 11th. Looking to continue his winning ways from 2007, Capps will be a force to compete with in the Masters division.

Joining Capps in the Masters class will be AJ Foyt Racing pilot Vitor Meira. Making the switch from Panther Racing to AJ Foyt Racing for 2009, Meira has high hopes and will look to finish ’08 off with the All-Stars Karting Classic victory. Meira was a contender all year in the IndyCar Series where he scored several strong results including a second place finish at the Indianapolis 500. In 2006, Meira finished fifth in the series championship and claimed six podium results along the way. Looking to stay in shape, Vitor can often be seen at the New Castle Motorsports Park facility near Indianapolis, Indiana.

"We're very excited to have both Ron Capps and Vitor Meira representing Motorama Kart Parts in the Master's division of the All-Stars Karting Classic,” stated MKP Co-Owner Bill McLaughlin. “Vitor is an awesome karter; we work with him throughout the year on his Birel/Leopard. Ron also ran real well last year and was a lot of fun to have in the tent with us. Ron brought MKP a lot of PR outside of karting from the NHRA press and fans. Although they have vastly different backgrounds in racing, we're sure both of these guys will work well together and have a great time."

Joining Capps and Meira will be MKP’s Bill McLaughlin Jr. With several years of karting experience and vast knowledge of his Birel package, McLaughlin will look to put all of that to use and battle with champions from across North America.

"In the karter's division we're running Bill McLaughlin Jr. In addition to his karting experience, Bill has moved into the SCCA F1000 cars over the past year and has been running very well,” stated McLaughlin’s father and Co-Owner of MKP. “This race provides him with an excellent opportunity to run with some of the best in racing and get valuable exposure for a young aspiring driver."

Vitor Meira and Ron Capps will join Ed Carpenter, Michael Valiante, Will Power, Marco Andretti, Antron Brown, AJ Allmendinger, Max Papis, Cristiano Da Matta, Oswaldo Negri, Buddy Rice, Scott Speed, Townsend Bell, Jamie McMurray, Nelson Phillipe, Jan Heylan and Ryan Hunter-Reay in the Masters division. A series of further driver announcements are forthcoming for this prestigious event.

With a host of driver announcements and news forthcoming, please stay tuned to http://www.StarsofKarting.com for up-to-date information. The PRI show takes place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida from December 11-13 with the All-Stars Karting Classic taking place on the evening of December 11. Admission to the event is free along with a PRI show credential.
