SUNDAY, JUNE 1

It was certainly an exciting day at New Castle Motorsports Park on Sunday as the main events of the Snap-on Stars of Karting Mazda Race of the Americas went in the books. The paddock had the opportunity to see what the ICC competition would look like without powerhouse Gary Carlton in the line-up as the two-time defending champion suffered mechanical failures in both finals, opening the door for some great racing for the top step of the podium. When the final checkered flag dropped, Michael Vincec (CRG) and David Jurca (Italkart) had scored big wins in ICC.

SATURDAY, MAY 31

The paddock at the New Castle Motorsports Park looked like a battle zone this morning when the Stars of Karting crew and the series competitors arrived to begin qualifying and the heat races for this year’s Mazda Race of the Americas. Torrential rains and tornado-like winds attacked the area through the previous evening, destroying many of the teams’ tents and awnings. To give the teams the opportunity to clean up the debris and make any repairs to damaged equipment, Stars mandated a two-hour delay before starting the day’s schedule, the final effects meaning that the third ICC heat would be completed after 7:00 pm. Despite the delay, the racing was exciting as the grids were set for the main events on Sunday.

THURSDAY, MAY 29

The first big event on the year for the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series will take place this weekend with the fourth running of the Mazda Race of the Americas at the New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, IN. After three straight years at the Oklahoma Motorsports Complex in Norman, OK, the Stars officials have moved the event to the New Castle facility, located just 45 minutes from downtown Indianapolis. While moving the location, the series also moved it to the second round of both divisional schedules rather than the opening event of the year.
