I have pieced together a shifter kart that I have ran in autocross for the last 2 years.  Recently I have experienced a problem only while in first gear. When leaving the start line  and slipping the clutch, the motor will pull to about 8000 rpm then nose over and not pull further. Shifting on to higher gears and the motor pulls strong with no problems. Anyone know why this occurs only in first gear?  Thanks in advance.

what did the problem end up being?  that way if others have that issue, they can see what the solution might be.

Fuel line (feed) was cracked at fitting inside top of tank. Fearsome first gear acceleration pulled fuel line open, losing fuel pump vacuum.
